“Shouldn’t that be a good thing though? That it’s been quite uneventful? I would much rather it be calm than shit to hit the fan.”

“Fair enough. But a little drama would not be so bad, no one has to die, but maybe someone cheats or lies at least.”

“ Aw, alright. I was hoping you would. I am not concerned whether people want me here or not. I’m not even sure why that would matter. The point is: I want to be here. That’s all that matters. And, actually, I have already met a few people whom I think could be potential friends. They don’t find me revolting. Do you? ”

“What are you here for, Pandora? To make friends? Then by all means have your way but if your motives turn out to be ones of malice then you stand no chance here and will certainly be in for a rude awakening. As to if I find you revolting...that may be up in the air for now but knowing you let heads roll as punishment for nothing but inconvenience is not exactly a refreshing thought.”

“Nothing really. I mean, nothing that I’ve heard of anyway. This place has been pretty quiet. What about you. Hear anything juicy?”

“No, unfortunately the palace seems to be quite uneventful lately. I have been roaming around trying to see if I can hear any gossip but sadly it is all very trivial.”

“ And this palace is just shades of browns. Even the colors seem brown. Don’t get ahead of yourself, please. The people here are so intruiging and I think I might just say a while. Get myself comfortable here. I can overlook the decor for now. Can’t you, little Cheshire? Don’t tell me I’m not wanted here. ”

”I will not spell out my meanings to you, Pandora. Surely you know by now that nobody wanted you here, there, or anywhere. What are you even here for? Looking for people who may actually enjoy your company because I can easily dismiss that idea right now because even the villains here would find you revolting.”

“ Oh, little one. It’s so nice to hear my name around here. Have you all been talking about me? I sure hope so. I have come to see what all of the fuss is about this palace, if you could even call it that. The decor is so bland and there are hardly enough flowers so far as I have seen. ”

“Bland says the princess who lives her life in black, white and red. Surely you do not expect everyone to bow down and abide to you here. Now that you have seen the palace and made your judgements perhaps you should be on your way.”

“The same way the innocent addresses his executor, my lady. With irony, hatred, a call of fear of the unknown but also of curiosity and perhaps the hope of understanding or even ground. So, please ease my curiosity and tell me why you have come here, Pandora,”

Riley dipped her head back into the water, just getting her hair wet and slicking it back to her scalp as Risa jumped in. “You’ll get used to it in a little bit. Just think, it could be a lot worse.”

“I agree. So, what have you been up to recently? Any gossip I could know about?”

Riley shrugged her shoulders as Risa began to take off her boots. “No, it was a warm enough day that the water isn’t too cold.”

Risa then removed her sweater so she was only in her skirt and a shirt. With that, she jumped into the water and fully immersed herself. When she popped her head back out she gasped for air and shivered. “Not too cold still is quite cold.”

“I suppose I could handle that.” Risa lifted her foot to remove her boots “Is the water not cold this early in the year?”

“I don’t think videogames are really unpredictable it’s all pre-generated code. But that’s cool. What else is different?”

“Sure, but the player is not always aware of every possible outcome. It is hard to explain what is different exactly. Nothing is what it is here, everything is what it is not. What it would be it is not and what it would not be it is. You see?”

“No, it is another world all together. I suppose you could compare it to the bright and unpredictable nature of a game but with no controllers or even control.”
