iām in my re-reading (and reading) shadowhunters phase, and iām realizing that the story of tessa, jem and will is the most tragic happy ending iāve ever read.
they all find their happy ending, but never all together:
- tessa finds love two times and both love her and make a family with her, but she has to lose both of them;
- jem survives his illness and (eventually) gets to have his family, but loses his parabatai and canāt be with him like they promised;
- will survives his curse, finds love and makes a family, but lose his parabatai, not to death, no, he knows that heāll live a different kind of life, a solitary life; he also dies knowing his wife will be alone (well, she has immortal friends, but still loses most of her friends and family); his love and parabatai then find each other again, but this time he isnāt there with them.
so yes, they all find happiness, but not together; they all have their happy ending, but it isnāt a complete happy ending, because someone is always missing, so is a tragedy. but itās a tragedy also because they couldnāt have had a different happy ending, if they were all together it wouldnāt have worked and they all would have suffered.
is a tragic happy ending: they are always in each otherās life, influencing and guiding each others no matter what, but at the same time they canāt actually be in each otherās life.
so, yes, a tragic happy ending, thatās the only way i can describe their story
