In 2019,
Forgive yourself and grow.
my word of the year is going to be delight.
to be delighted by everything i do and put effort in. by the people i meet and the connections i form, by those i love now and those i have yet to meet.
to be conscious about life, to enjoy it and to be mesmerized each day. both grateful for the past and excited for the future, but never forgetting the present, and how important it is to make the most out of it.
I don’t know what’s going on but it’s a lot
“As an ancient proverb says, three fingers hold the pen, but the whole body works. And aches.”
— Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose
Motivation is overrated. No amount of motivation would’ve gotten me through hours of my accounting textbook. No “vision” is enough to keep me awake til the crack of dawn on an essay that I don’t even know if the professor will check. Discipline is what determines how far you go. On those days when your cute little list of #goals and vision of yourself 5 years from now aren’t enough, discipline will pull you out of bed and get you to work. I wish I knew this in high school because I thought I couldn’t work without motivation. I wasted so much time trying to find purpose before I realized that working now, albeit blindly, will ensure that I could chase any purpose I discover in the future. Sure, motivation is crucial, but it’s not consistent. It’s not reliable. You can only rely on yourself and your grit.
THIS THIS THIS THIS
Been spending my days in coffe shops as mocks approach closer
I’m at the “we’ll see” stage in my life. With everything and everyone. We will see.
A person becomes 10 times attractive not by their looks but by their acts of kindness, love, respect, honesty and loyalty they show.
your mental/physical health and it’s setbacks do not define you. you need to keep trying. If you try, you can succeed in anything. we believe in you.
my study routine involves:
- staring at blank word documents for hours - crying. lots of crying - studying for 10 minutes then taking a nap for an hour - browsing this hell site - saying healthy study snacks can fuck off - and proceeding to have 3+ coffees in the morning - shopping for cute colourful unnecessary stationery when in reality I only use a black pen and some highlighters
Late night maths revision
the peace that you’ll gain will replace everything you’ve ever lost
Put up this grid vision board to plan out my months/weeks so far been very helpful and motivating!
you don’t have to attend every class, turn in every assignment, or ace every test to make good grades and be successful.
Getting me through these long hours of studying this morning

unconventional study tips
- buy yourself new stationery: i get so excited about using new pens that i don’t mind writing that essay i’ve been putting off for days
- use a playlist as a study timer: have a selection of instrumentals and songs with lyrics. take a break everytime a song with lyrics comes on and work during the instrumentals
- make your study space smell fresh: mint and lemon tend to be good options
- write down how much time you spend studying for a test and then the grade you got: then you can figure out how time you really need to spend to get a good grade. this will help you use your time more effectively
- spend your study breaks showering or exercising for about 30 mins: then come back fresh and quickly review what you have learned. this will help the information sink in
- don’t always study in comfy clothes or pyjamas: do your hair or makeup if you want too. this will put you in ‘get shit done’ mode
- record yourself explaining topics you’ve just studied: explaining/teaching topics helps you learn so much better, and you also have a little video to review before tests
nothing makes me happier than when people reply to this post and tell me they’re using the tips and it helps!!!!!!
