Once a child with hopes for to explore the outside world, Kaede lost his spark and resigned himself to the life laid out for him in Iitaka. Hardened by a past he wants to forget, time is never kind to a kid with dreams.

Having given up on his dream to be a professional swimmer, his passion led him to performance at the Starlight Music Hall where as a clarinettist of their orchestra. The kitsune may otherwise be found wandering the Ue Ma’an markets, searching for a new ingredient to drop in his mix of potions. He’s not a troublemaker. It just so happens that trouble always seems to find him.

“….” Haru tried to look annoyed but there was no hiding the hint of a smile that was playing upon his lips. Kinjou was rather..cute when he wanted attention; especially the way his ears perked up the closer he got to him.

“Well it’s certainly more direct.” Haru finally replied before reaching out to smooth down the fur on his tail where it had been in his mouth. “And..I wasn’t ignoring you.. I was enjoying your company..”

“Can’t blame me if I want a little more than that,” he sighs, enjoying the feeling of Haru’s gentle touch. Needy, maybe, but his relaxed smile made it obvious that it was quite a while to him since he’d felt this calm.

“More than just, y’know, enjoying each other’s company.” He leans over and presses a kiss to his cheek, draping an arm around his shoulders. “I’m feeling really needy today. Can I at least have this?”

Well this had been a relaxing day in the clearing; Haru reading his favourite fish book whilst Kinjou amused himself. But getting a faceful and indeed a mouthful of fluffy fox tail hadn’t been in the plan. He spluttered a little, sitting up to give Kinjou an inquiring look as to what the heck he was up to.

“There are easier ways to ask for attention…”

"Easier, but that’s what you get for ignoring me the whole time.” Not that he’d actually said anything before, but it was definitely frustrating to get ignored. He shuffles in closer, snatching the book away from Haru and laying it down on the coffee table - obviously so that he wouldn’t lose his page.

“Is this enough then?”

To keep his eyes from brimming over with how overtly cute the twitch was, Ai has to stare at Kaede’s tails, watching as they idly swish along the bottom of his couch.

How could I push you off?! Like this…! His hands softly ghost over the backs of Kaede’s ears, both ending with a gentle tweak. Even the inside is soft…!! “Ah, just– one of your ears moved, and it was very cute.”

“Cute?” Kaede shoots up from his place, shuffling back to the edge of the couch as he covers his ears. Tails propped up behind him, he’s caught way too off guard by Ai’s easy going comments.

“Don’t go around saying stuff like that! It’s weird.” Everything feels way too sensitive, both his pride and his ears. He turns away, pouting almost comically as he brings one of his tails to rest on his lap. “If anything, you’re the cute one. Can’t call someone as big as me something like that.”

The ear twitch catches his bottom lip between his teeth. Cute…!!

“What happens if you fall asleep?” Ai teases in turn, almost as a subtle way to let Kaede know he really doesn’t mind. “It’ll be a predicament for me for sure. You’re not light, after all.”

“Just push me off. I don’t mind.” Well, he really does mind, but it’s better than inconveniencing the other. Here he was, indebted to him. “It’d be my fault if I sleep anyways.”

Though, he does notice Ai’s reaction to something. It’d be pretty terrible for Kaede if he were completely powerless against Ai of all people.

“Is there something wrong?”

Ai didn’t really question having a grown man in his lap until it’s pointed out it’s weird, to which he blinks, and then shrugs.

“It’s definitely weird,” he agrees with a titter, “But frankly, Kinjou-san, you’re soft, and I don’t have the heart to kick you off.” Both of his hands are working at the back of his ears, now. Almost like a massage. “Somehow, I feel you might be enjoying it more than me…”

There’s something irritating about those words. Kick him off, huh? Well, complaining about it would only lead him to that, so he doesn’t have much of a choice. Even if it’s not forced, he’s still unsure when he’s going to get someone he trusts to do this. His ears twitch a little.

“And? You’re good at this. I’ve got no reason to not take advantage of this. I owe you one, Ai.”

Ah, I meant you as a person, is the thought that passes through his mind. Ai is polite enough not to say it out loud.

The sudden weight in his lap is a small surprise, but not unwelcome; he’s immediately petting and scratching behind Kaede’s ear, now, as well as through his hair. The bliss in Ai’s expression hints he might be in heaven. “But I’m just petting you like normal. Are people usually more aggressive?”

“You’d be surprised at just how terrible people are at this.” It might be okay to completely relax around Ai - mostly because nobody would ever believe that Kaede would let him do this. His tails that had melted off of the couch now swish about happily, completely content with Ai’s work.

He looks up for a second, eyes glimmering with strange eagerness.

“Do you enjoy doing this though? It’s a little weird, isn’t it?”

“Kinjou-san is softer than I thought.” Ai doesn’t hesitate to put his hand right back where it had been a second ago. Scritch, scratch.

“Softer? Kinda offended that you’d doubt this fur,” he mumbles. Reluctantly - mostly against his pride - he drapes himself over Ai’s lap, hoping that he isn’t too heavy.

“Just this once okay? You can touch only cause you’re good at this.”

He’s caught totally off guard! A kitsune’s most critical weakness. In a matter of seconds, Kaede melts at the feeling of Ai’s absolute magic on him. It’s only when he realises that he’s started purring that he’s let his guard down way too easily. His cheeks glisten with embarrassment, but he refuses to move away.

“W-Warn someone next time you... please.”
