So the NRA posted this absolute horseshit after the Thousand Oaks shooting

And honestly pissing off doctors and medical professionals is one of the dumbest things to do so now trauma surgeons, nurses, etc. are posting pictures of their blood soaked emergency rooms and scrubs with #stayinmylane

Wow. Fuck you NRA. I have worked in one of the largest trauma centres in Australia and have NEVER had to deal with a gunshot wound. Not once. This is our lane. Thankfully we have absolutely no traffic.

The fall out of these incidents becomes the responsibility of hospital staff. The number of deaths caused by gun violence in the US is a public health crisis. We need research. It is the tenant of medicine - we need an evidence base to reduce mortality.

Have some fucking respect. Have some respect for the ambulance officers who are the first on scene and have to work quickly to stabilise and move these patients to a hospital. Have some respect for the nurses who hold these terrified patients hands and try to calm them down whilst still managing drugs and vitals. Have some respect for the radiographers who perform the CTs and discover there is more damage than was initially suspected. Have some respect for the auxiliary staff that have to wipe the blood from the floor and walls to prepare for the next victim. Have some respect for the doctors who after working for hours and giving their absolute all to save these patients. And after all that, still have to walk into that family room, hold the hand of the patient’s loved ones and tell them that all the work everyone put in still wasn’t enough to save them. Have some respect for the social workers and psychologists who help these families piece their lives back together after such a hideous tragedy.

So maybe YOU ASSHOLES need to learn some fucking respect and STAY IN YOUR LANE.

I just. I don’t like this view of “millennials vs Gen Z”. This is NOT supposed to be a competition of who got fucked over the most and who’s “actually fighting back”.

Millennials are fighting back just by surviving in a job market where the minimum wage doesn’t cover the living cost. Millennials are awesome at “killing” the diamond, golfing and napkins industries. Millennials are using the internet to make sure things that corporations want to keep in the dark are exposed. They’re open LGBTQIA-friendly business, they’re supporting each other with online donations so everyone can survive this shitty economy.

And the Gen Z kids? The Gen Z kids are rad. I remember a post about something like the millennials making a collective promise to never become a disenchanted generation that only criticizes the next one and I want to point out that this “millennials vs gen z” trend is trying to do exactly that: split us apart. Prevent millennials from being the older siblings that teach the younger siblings to throw a good punch and turn them into the annoyed adult complaining about “those kids” on their lawn. We are the two groups that grew in a connected world of information. We are two very unique generations.

I think that it’s our duty for us millennials, as a disrespected, underpaid, very angry generation to stand up by our younger siblings, and fight together the oppressive systems that brought us all to this point.
