“José y Maria,” by Everett Patterson
Adventurer!
Ah it’s been exactly 10 days since I’ve been back from my great adventure of exploring Australia. Yet I’m already itching for another adventure… South America? Iceland? Croatia? India? To be honest, I was so close to booking another flight for my birthday. I thought to myself, how many countries can I explore before I turn 24. I made it to Thailand and Australia in a span of 5 months…let’s make it 3!
But then I was clearly stopped in my tracks. Seeing the news about the refugee crisis and the terrible pictures of Syrian babies washing up on European shores really woke me up.
I am almost turning 24 and as much as I want to see all of His wonders in all the different parts of the world and meeting all different types of people… What if there’s more to it? What if there is more to the title “Adventurer” in God’s dictionary for me…for us all.
I’d like to believe traveling and being in total awe of God’s creation is a deep form of worship but I can’t help but think that if we traveled all our lives to see every crevice of this earth and did nothing to help the people in need living IN this earth…would it even count?
Then the King will say, ‘I’m telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.’” Matthew 25:37-40 MSG
What if an adventurer in God’s eye meant more than just traveling and being brave against unknown counties. What if an adventurer meant that we were to be His hands and His feet? What if it meant that we were to help and embrace the poor? What if it meant that we were called to aid the sick? What if it meant sowing into the lives around us? What if it meant taking time from our busy schedule to be a big brother or sister to someone who needs it? What if it required us to be so brave as the forerunners of Christ that we would not only explore the world but we would change it?
What if the next great adventure that God has in store for me…for us is actually right around the corner (literally)

Aletheia (Al-ay’-thi-a):
truth.
the state of not being hidden; the state of being evident.
the elucidation of how an ontological “world” is disclosed, or opened up, in which things are made intelligible for human beings in the first place, as part of a holistically structured background of meaning.
truth that isn’t just propositional, but is relational. truth brings freedom, enables love, guides us, proclaims grace, combats favoritism, brings occasion to rejoice, and provides a firm foundation.
Aletheia, or truth, as in:
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24
“Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” 1 Corinthians 13:6
“Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.” Ephesians 4:15
I am sure God keeps no one waiting unless He sees that it is good for him to wait.
C.S. Lewis (via graceupon-grace)
Waiting is just a gift of time in disguise — a time to pray wrapped up in a ribbon of patience — because is the Lord ever late?

I visited a local megachurch recently. My friend described it as, “You know, one of those big-box churches with one-word names, super-loud music, huge video screens, and long sermons.” ... read on
