Book Review:
I really wanted to love this book because the beginning completely pulled me in.
Jamie and Pippa had such a fun dynamic and I loved Jamie almost immediately. His awkwardness, the way he remembered the little things about Pippa, and how obviously gone he was for her made me smile more than once. Their banter was adorable and I genuinely thought they had great chemistry.
Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, I started to lose that excitement.
For me, the romance moved faster than I wanted. I was hoping for more emotional buildup, more yearning, and more tension before certain relationship milestones happened. The early chapters did such a great job building anticipation that I found myself wanting that feeling to last a little longer but once the story shifted directions, I slowly became less invested.
By around the halfway point, I realized I wasn’t looking forward to picking the book back up anymore, and I ultimately decided to DNF. It wasn’t because I disliked the characters….I actually really liked Jamie but because the pacing of the romance just didn’t work for me personally.
Even though this one wasn’t the right fit, I can absolutely see why so many readers enjoy it. If you love hockey romances with humor, fake dating, and a hero who’s completely head over heels, this may be exactly what you’re looking for.
Unfortunately, I was hoping for a slower burn with more emotional tension so this one just wasn’t for me.
