An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Summary:
āDo I know you from somewhere? Or maybe Iāve just been dreaming of meeting you my whole life.ā
Or, the one where a chance encounter leaves two women thinking that this is just the beginning of endless possibilities.
Notes:
Dedicated to all the fics that are yet to come.
People have written a lot of touchy-feely pieces on this subject but I thought Iād get right to the heart of the matter
This is 1000% more motivating than every preachy āreal writers write every dayā post on all of Tumblr.
I call this the ātwo cakesā rule and remind myself of it when I start comparing myself to other people.
(Look to the person on your right. What is one thing youāve learned about them in the time youāve worked with each other?)
āYou mean this guy I met like four days ago?ā
A few notes: - yesterday the car rental place made us wait over an hour but when we finally got our car we were upgraded to a jeep. It's actually been pretty perfect for the kind of driving we're doing. - my sister and cousin had the idea to go hiking. I didn't realize they meant up the side of a mountain. I wanted to quit like ten minutes in (and every 10 minutes after that on the way up). Even though I was exhausted and felt like I was going to puke the view was nice and the way back down was way, way easier. - since it's also hot as fuck swimming in the Gatineau River was the perfect way to spend an hour or so after the hike.
One more.

Did the Alphas originally refuse to play because they might hurt the little delicate Omegas with their Big Alpha Muscles? Did the Omegas make passive-aggressive remarks about Fragile Alpha Egos until the Alphas cracked? Do the Omegas play dirty? Leaving scent trails and forming a complete first line of unclaimed Omega players? Do they wear the tiny little volleyball shorts for no reason in particular and keep needing to crane their necks to look at stuff really high up on the roof, seemingly only when an alpha is about to take a shot?? Do they completely annihilate the Alphas until they give up all semblance of old-world decency and start slamming the ball back? Do the Omegas who are āoutā decide to do some yoga on the sidelines because itās super urgent? Do the alphas start getting into scuffles with each other, crazy with hormones? Does the referee have to be a beta for fairness reasons?
I'd like to protest that it's the Omega's hosting the cook out. That's a really dated stereotype, expecting Omega's to do the cooking.
I canāt believe I actually lived though the full transition from VHS to DVD. Like there are people alive who have never seen a VHS tapeā¦.I remember when we were still tryna figure out how the fuck they got a full movie onto a cd.Ā

A Quest To Find A Life
Hereās the thing they donāt tell you about growing up.
As you get older, and move away from things like school, and the clubs and organizations and teams that tend to go along with that period in our lives, it can become harder and harder to meet people and have a social life. Itās natural, I think, that we drift away from some relationships as time goes on, but what Iāve found snuck up on me in the last five years or so especially is that the rate I was losing relationships was overtaking the rate that I was forming new ones. Iām not married. I donāt work in an office with hundreds of other people. I donāt have kids. My neighbours are primarily all in a different generation than I am.Ā
I grew up in the church, which was a major source of my social life when I was younger, but even before I came out and got out of that lifestyle I found myself feeling more and more the outsider because of the aforementioned lack of kids and spouse. I subscribe to the theory that online fandom is very similar to a church community, but at the end of the day as great as online friendships are, itās hard to go check out that new restaurant down the street with your friend who lives on the other side of the country.
Iāve always been someone who throws myself into things, and allows my passions to become obsessions. I mean, Iāve spent over fifteen years in fandom, what more do I need to say? In my day to day life, however, this has sometimes given me workaholic tendencies. Now I wish I could say it made me a hyper disciplined workaholic who became wildly successful, but that is really, really not the case. At 32 years old I still feel like Iām figuring out what I want to do with my life - and in the back of my mind Iām more and more aware that my life is really almost half over already, and what do I have to show for myself.
With that said, I also know that if Iām depending on my job to find fulfillment in life, Iāll never be happy, not even if I stumble onto theĀ āperfectā job.
So Iāve decided itās time to go on a quest.Ā
A Quest To Find A Life.
So far on this quest, Iāve committed to six sessions with a personal trainer (not to get thinner but to find more energy), found a Fandomish meet up in my city where I can meet face to face with fellow geeks, and found a choir to join to bring some musical expression back into my life. Now, youāll notice that all these things are things Iāve signed up for, but have yet to actually do.Ā
Iāll report back in once Iāve unlocked these adventures on my Quest.
