Dodger rolled his eyes playfully at the annoying nickname that was meant to get under his skin. The morning had started off too good for anything to bring him down, or so he thought. That was until they approached the open house and things finally clicked. This wasn’t just some random happening. This was calculated, whether it was meant for Dodger to see or not. He knew that she was trying to get out of the life. That she wanted to live an honest life. His smile was gone, replaced by a frown that occupied the space now. He couldn’t help feeling disappointed. It felt like she was leaving him too. “Then go get some food.” He stopped where he stood, not wanting to go any further.
Like a change in the wind, Rita could practically feel Dodger’s mood shift beside her. She swallowed the lump in her throat, hands balling up as she prepared for his tantrum. And yes it was a tantrum because he was acting like a child. Like she had been asking to move across the world rather than a few moments away. “Dodge please don’t be like this.” she said lowly to him, she didn’t wany to make a scene. She moved in front of him, the house to her back. Just like always. Rita always turned her back on her desires simply to please Dodger. But with each passing day she was becoming less and less okay with it. Why did she have to give up her dreams simply to accommodate his? “I just want to look and it would really mean a lot to me if you just came with me?” she pleaded. “look at this place. do i look like i can afford it ? What’s wrong with dreaming? Why can’t we just go in there and be a girl and a guy looking at a house? ”
