when ryo heard asuka was coming back to japan during her semester break, he decided to meet her at the airport. it had been so long since he had seen her. he hadn't gotten the chance to visit due to things with his league, but now she was back for a bit. the moment he saw her, he smiled. "it's good to see you again." he wrapped his arms around her. "i hope your semester went well." she had always been like a little sister to him. it was almost strange she was so far away now. "how are you?"

                                  aside from manjoume, asuka hadn’t seen anyone from duel academy in person since she left. she had been counting down the days for weeks. she could finally go home, where she could finally relax and spend time with the people she missed so much. 

                                                 the warm feeling in her chest spread up to her smile when she saw ryo. she wanted to surprise fubuki ( and didn’t want him cancelling plans to meet her ), so she only called ryo to meet her at the airport. as soon as ryo hugged her, she returned the gesture, holding onto him tightly. it felt so good to be home. 

                                                 “ you look well. i’m glad. ” it was hard to keep up with everyone for many reasons, so she hadn’t heard as much from ryo as she would have liked. though she supposed no news was good news. he looked a lot better than he did when she left. “ it’s about what you might expect from a teaching job, especially since it’s my first ... but i’m doing well. i’m excited to see everyone again. ”

                               i missed you. hearing that made his heart skip a beat. she missed him. she missed him. he held he tighter, not wanting to let go quite yet. “it’s not the same without you.” even if everyone had gone their separate ways, they kept in touch and still hung out every now and again. but with asuka having gone oversees, that was next to impossible to do at least on a regular basis. 

                            “i wish you were closer.” he admitted softly. he hated how far away she was now. even coming here took a lot, not that he was upset with her for any of it. he cleared his entire schedule to see her. he wanted to see her, and it sounded like she needed some company. though he couldn’t do this often. even if he wanted to see her more, it just wasn’t possible to clear time like that. “sometime, you should come back to japan. i know everyone would love to see you again.”

                                   “ so do i, ” she hated that in order to see her, manjoume had to put everything he was doing aside. no matter what intention was behind it, it was still such a big gesture that she kept feeling both touched and guilty about. “ i want to go home all the time, but it’s not realistic. ” it was much too far to go home on a weekend, and semester break was still so far away. she sighed. asuka didn’t want what limited time she had with manjoume to be them talking about how they couldn’t see each other.

                                                   “ let’s think about that later. for now, there’s a lot i want to show you. ” asuka finally pulled away, giving manjoume a warm smile. she didn’t really get the chance to show anyone around; rather, everyone else had been showing her around lately. “ i have to put some stuff back before we do anything ... i can show you around my apartment, if you want. ”

                                the last thing manjoume had expected was for asuka to hug him. it wasn’t bad–far from it–he was happy actually. he had wanted to hug her as well, but worried about making her uncomfortable. he felt himself relax in her embrace as he slowly returned it, letting out a breath he had been holding in. 

                                “i missed you so much.” the words slip out of his mouth without him wanting to and he freezes up for a moment before quickly adding, “e-everyone misses you. jaden, johan, kaiser, master…it’s not the same without you.” he does his best to retract from his first statement. he felt foolish in a way, still finding himself in love with asuka 3 years later. she would never like someone like him. he knew that. she deserved better than him anyways.

                                 despite knowing manjoume’s feelings, she was still surprised to hear him outright say that he missed her. she wouldn’t comment on it, though; he had so quickly tried to recover from what he thought was some sort of mistake. no matter what manjoume hoped for their relationship, it was still okay for them to miss each other. a selfish part of her wanted to be missed, at least so she would know that her own feelings weren’t illogical.  

                                                she felt like she should let go, but she couldn’t. it’d been so long since she’d seen a familiar face. it wasn’t as if she was having a terrible time or anything, she was just so far from everyone she cared about. she couldn’t help missing them. she couldn’t help wanting to hang onto this moment for as long as possible.

                                                 “ i missed you. ” she whispered. “ everyone is so far away. ”

"it's... been awhile, tenjoin-kun." it had been quite some time since he last saw her in person. they had texted on and off, and called a couple times before manjoume came, but that was it. "i... umm... " he felt stiff, awkward. he didn't want to say the wrong thing or sound stupid. "it's good to see you again... " i missed you.

                                 it’s been a while was an understatement. out of everyone, asuka had ended up keeping up with manjoume more than anyone else, and even then, it was still obvious that they were countries apart. she was still surprised after he decided so suddenly to visit her, all because she admitted to being homesick over the phone. it made her emotional, thinking that someone cared for her that much. she normally wouldn’t let herself appear so outwardly vulnerable, but she couldn’t help it. she hadn’t seen a familiar face in ages. 

                                             despite manjoume’s stiffness, she closed the distance to hug him tightly. “ i’m glad you came. ”
