and he is sinking. he can feel it, in the depths of his soul and the marrow of his bones. he can feel the grief leaking in through the cracked walls of his heart, haphazardly put back together after shattering at the loss of you, his soulmate.
and the worst part, james knows, is that you aren’t there to see your shadows, together, dancing on the wall as the last dregs of daylight filter in through the blinds.
he can’t hug you when you’ve had a bad day anymore. he can’t kiss your forehead when you’re sick, he can’t make you breakfast in the morning, he can’t drive you to work when you’re running late, he can’t try and convince you to skip work and stay in with him anymore.
and when he lets the grief pour in, just for a moment, he catches himself mourning what could have been.
After lunch, when the staff gathers briefly in the teachers’ lounge for a quick coffee, Jaehyun settles into a chair, lifting his mug and taking a slow sip, eyes half-closed in calm reflection on the chaos of the morning.
Across the room, one of the other teachers leans over, lowering their voice conspiratorially. “Why does Sungho run away every time you appear?”
Jaehyun blinks, staring into his coffee as if the question requires deep contemplation. “…Excellent question,” he murmurs, voice quiet, almost neutral, though a faint smirk tugs at the corner of his mouth.
From the far side of the room, Sungho stiffens, his gaze catching the mention of his name. He knocks over a chair in his panic— not badly, but enough to draw attention— and starts walking toward the door faster than necessary. His back is rigid, every step calculated to escape the proximity he secretly dreads. A few heads glance at the sound, eyebrows raised, and he mutters something inaudible about needing “fresh air.”
Jaehyun doesn’t react beyond a slow sip of coffee, allowing the scene to play out.
Your third and last year of high school, something you’ve been waiting for since you were little. Throughout your time in school, many had high expectations for you. You’ve been elected for student council president ever since middle school, along with having the top marks in your class. Of course, that wouldn’t change this year. You’ve planned it all in your journal; the same objective, the same you. Run for your sixth year as student council president, and graduate at the top of your class. No distractions either, you won’t let anything bring you down this year.
Your schedule is filled to the brim with complicated classes, you ignored the people who told you to take it easy for your last year, you won’t let laziness ruin your goals; you never have. Every accelerated class helps increase your already outstanding GPA, no matter how much the workload is you'll push through anyway.
Which brings you to chemistry, the class you dread walking to everyday. Ever since you became acquainted with Myung Jaehyun, the captain of the basketball team who happens to be one of the most incompetent people you know. He bugs you for the answers, peeks at your paper during assessments thinking you don’t notice, but of course you do. No matter how many times you confront him, he only offers you a smile and plays it off, only fueling your anger.
It's completely unlike you. Usually, you’re willing to help people struggling like him. Though you just can’t ignore his witty comments and sly looks, and by god how cute he is. Myung Jaehyun is a huge distraction, aka an obstacle in the way of your goal. Sure, you’ve gawked over boys before, every girl has, but Jaehyun happens to make your heart flutter in a way that no other guy has before.

i am so pissed off and tired to have to defend my claims, so its up to you guys. when you read fics, and other works, try to see if there is any real soul in what the author is trying to say. at the end of the day, ai replicates and steals but it will never be a perfect imitation, no matter how sophisticated. if you have actual logical arguments against this, feel free to show up in my inbox. unlike the previously mentioned user, i have no issues with replying to claims in a sensible and evidence-based manner.

Following up on @moesthinking post, I wanted to come forward to share my mutuals and my own experience, with what I believe shows a wider pattern beyond just the AI suspicion.
BEFORE YOU READ : this is not a callout made with malice. I have no interest in seeing anyone harassed, sent hate, or receive death threats. If you do any of that, you are not supporting me or anyone else involved. This is purely about accountability and protecting the creative spaces we've all worked hard to build here!!
Beyond the AI concerns raised in pt. 1, I and several of my mutuals have noticed a recurring pattern of our work, layouts, graphics, fic structures, and themes being used without proper credit or acknowledgement. I'll be walking through each situation with evidence as clearly and fairly as I can.
Prior to posting her series, @/haeonniie reached out to me asking how I made my LCA graphics. As someone who enjoys supporting other writers, I shared that information freely, I had no reason not to. She later showed me her graphics. They were quite similar to LCA style, but at the time I didn't think too much of it since I assumed the overall series would still be different.
However, when she eventually posted the series, I noticed that the structural framework of the series was also very similar to LCA. Because of that, I privately asked her whether she could acknowledge that LCA was an inspiration. She replied saying that she used ChatGPT and asked it what type of structure would work for a web design, and that she just followed what it generated for both the graphics and structure (as previously mentioned in pt.1)
Lights, Camera, Action! was posted in October 2025. By The Hour was posted a few months later in January 2026, after she had already seen and studied my work. The similarities go beyond coincidence, but I haven't included every comparison below, you're welcome to take a look at both series yourself.
However, this didn't stop at By The Hour. Before she posted her collab series, she again reached out asking if she could credit me, stating the layout was coincidentally similar to By The Hour.
As shown above, I agreed at first, but after reflecting, I realised I wasn't comfortable with any reuse of my layouts at all, and communicated that. Her response was that both the By The Hour and GirlNextDoor Post Office (the collab) layouts were entirely her own. Which raises an obvious question, if the layouts were fully original, why was credit to me necessary in the first place? If By The Hour's layout was entirely her own as she claims, then crediting me for the collab series (which she said resembled By The Hour) still traces back to LCA regardless.
My mutual @taestulipss also noticed that haeon's previous theme bore a striking resemblance to hers. Prior to changing her theme, haeon had liked both rosy's pinned post and her masterlist, suggesting she had seen the theme before adopting a similar concept herself. Rosy has a bakery/patisserie themed blog, and haeon's previous theme followed the same concept, a food-based boutique with a similar branding style and comparable layout structure. Rosy was uncomfortable with the similarities, but didn't want to claim sole ownership over a bakery theme, so after a few days, she simply welcomed her instead. Given everything else in this post thus far, it's hard to ignore as part of a wider pattern.
Additionally, haeon's carrd was noted to be using the same premade template as rosy's, which was a free but relatively obscure layout that isn't easily found. While neither of them owns the template itself, the pattern of mirroring rosy's specific choices is hard to ignore in this context.
Lastly, another mutual @gentiliana noticed that haeon posted #TEDDIEZ, which was stated to be 'inspired' by her Taesan smau (#BLACKKATZ) without asking for permission beforehand. According to her, the two fics are highly similar.
While credit was given publicly in the author's note, taking significant inspiration from someone's work without asking first isn't okay, especially when the similarities run deep.
I want to be clear that this post was not made to ruin anyone or send hate her way. If you've read this far, I hope you understand why we felt the need to speak up. The creative spaces we've built here matter, and the work we put into our writing, layouts and blogs is what we're all proud of and hold dearly to us. All we ask is that those things are respected!
Reiterating my ai post, please do not interact with my blog if you utilize it. I’m sick of watching tumblr go to shit because of it. It’s gotten to a point where multiple of my mutuals and friends alike have threatened to quit tumblr, this is more serious than people are taking it!!
Specifically, I would like to point out one author that I’m disappointed to have learned might use ai.
BEFORE YOU READ : This is not made with ill intent at all, I simply don’t want to see this fandom fall to ai and have a sliver of hope that people can change for the better. This is only a suspicion, and I am aware of how serious of an accusation this is, but I am not the only one who sees it!!
User @/haeonniie posted a fic recently that contained a line that was unmistakably ai, and an anon rightfully called it out ( see it here ) :
The first thought that came to my head was: why would they do that? Yes, to test if people would read their fics, but why be known for ai usage if you agree that it’s harmful? This was the first red flag for me and my friend @taestulipss, (who has been a major help in this situation!!).
We both start off by sending an anon, very politely asking for the screenshots they offered. We were met with no reply, even though they were replying to other anons actively!
Rosy and I accepted we were going to be ignored, so instead we resorted to reblogging her post and asking her for the screenshot publicly, only hoping our suspicions would be squashed. We were still ignored.
Then their response came out, and it only made our eyebrows raise more.
You can absolutely get time stamps on instagram without having to scroll up to the beginning of a conversation, since there is a feature where you can swipe to the side and it displays the time a message was sent.
That alone makes their post seem off right off the bat. The screenshot they provided doesn’t seem authentic either, the conversation feels forced almost.
The conversation is abrupt, and that’s not something you come up with on the spot either. If you both brainstormed this previously, why not provide that screenshot instead? 
We decided to leave the issue alone, albeit being suspicious still. They had proof and a well written apology, but then we were sent screenshots from @coriihanniee that makes their whole post seem like a complete lie.
They outright stated they’ve used ai before to format a post, REALLY WEIRD! If you need to use ai to frame a masterlist what’s to say you don’t utilize it for your other content such as the fic itself too? With everything adding up, it doesn’t look good for their case.
This is only a suspicion, but it’s starting to seem like the truth every time something new comes out. Please be aware of the dangers of ai and educate yourself before engaging with it. It’s destroying our environment, taking jobs and crushing creative motivation for artists and writers alike.
I’m going to stress again that this call out post is in no way to send hate or negativity towards the author, nobody should be sending death threats AT ALL, that is completely unacceptable. This post is for awareness and that’s it.

Hi everyone, this is something I should've made clear from when I started this account, unfortunately I didn't so here I am now!!
Please unfollow me now if you support ai, especially in a community like bndblr ( guys, we're better than this.. ). It's actively destroying our world, especially creatively. Writers on this website spend so much time and effort on their works, literally pouring their hearts out just for someone to use a machine that does it for them.
It's frustrating as a writer because the thing I love is being turned into ai slop, and tbh it's heartbreaking to see a community that's supposed to be safe and loving get infiltrated by something that people should know is a huge issue in society.
Whether you're an adult or a minor, you should still be educated on problems like ai. If you aren't too young to write on Tumblr, you aren't too young to be educating yourself on things that could be harmful. ( I am not even going to say anything abt adults because we all should know better lol.. )
Ai becomes an even bigger problem if an author's works are being pumped into a machine and copied under their noses. Like I stated earlier, people on this app spend countless hours on content you all consume!! It is absolutely unfair for someone to throw a fic into chat gpt so it can rewrite it for their own blog.
Moral of the story: DON'T USE AI! It's not that hard. Take this post however you want but I don't have ill intentions at all, I am only frustrated and I'm sure you all understand. Love you my bananaminions

Well, I’m going to be so honest, my year on this platform has been a roller coaster, but I will never deny that this and a few other things have made my stay here such a pleasant moment. This Christmas collab especially reminded me why I decided to share my writing in the first place. I met amazing writers who soon became my friends, felt support in ways I didn’t expect, and, of course, created genuine connections that were filled with kindness. this year was honestly one of the funniest and toughest years i’ve experienced. between college keeping me busy 24/7, personal life challenges, my relationship, and writing, i learned a lot about balance — or at least trying to find it. i learned that it’s okay to step back sometimes, and that creativity doesn’t disappear just because life gets busy.
i started writing in march, and that’s something im really proud of. i never regretted starting — if anything, i regretted the times i went on hiatus, couldn’t post, or forgot about my series. still, starting and continuing when i could was an achievement in itself, and writing became something i always came back to.
to everyone who reads my work: thank you for your patience, your support, and for sticking around even when i was inconsistent. it truly means more to me than you know. every read, like, and comment made me feel seen and encouraged!

hi guys! i feel like this has been a lot to get through, but it will sad to see the collab come to an end. i didn’t expect things to work out the way they did as a writer on tumblr, and getting involved to be a part of this small but wholesome community after being away from it for so long has been something i didn’t really expect to happen either. despite joining bndblr, i feel like i didn’t truly become a part of it until early november, with the making of this account and getting a chance to meet and connect with these wonderful writers.

Hi, Merry Christmas to whoever's reading this! I'm just really awkward when it comes to starting letters like this, so sorry about that🥺✌
I don't really know how to start this short message but first of, I'm really grateful that I became a part of this wonderful collab and it's been so much fun talking to everyone else in this collab!! I remember Gill asking me if I wanted to join and honestly, I didn't want to because I would be really busy, but I wanted to challenge myself, which was lowkey a bad decision that I did hahaha, I stressed myself out but I'm happy that I did accept because I met these other writers that are so passionate about their work and I get to talk with them about stuff, I'm happy I accepted it!!
Before this, I actually stopped writing because I couldn't get motivation and ideas on what to write, which really affected me and in a way made me feel uncreative and useless. But yeah, I lost my spark when it came to writing, and this collab might actually be the last time I'll write. Nonetheless, I learned a lot from this experience, like don't cram your stuff ahah (did I ever mention I finished mine just as I was going to post it?), and to just have fun with writing, when I wrote my part, my mind was running MILES with ideas on how it was supposed to go which just made it hard for me to write it lol.
To the people who have read my works before, I'm just grateful you took your time to read them. I remember being so scared of posting my stories (overthinker much?), and doubting myself. I'm happy I was able to share my thoughts and imagination, Tumblr became my diary. Thank you to my friends (who will never see this), who really helped me with life in general, to the people in this collab, you all have inspired me so much, and obviously my ult, Boynextdoor, they're a big part of my life, they changed me so much in a good way, and I'm happy that everyone that knows me knows boynextdoor, because that's how important they are in my life. hihi everyone and merry christmas!! this year has truly been a wild ride, but i’m so glad i took the leap and made my tumblr account at the beginning of the year. and now here at the end… all i can say is thank you. to my beloved moots, ily all so much!! esp getting to know so many more of u during this amazing collab, i’ve had so much fun playing games and collectively losing our minds over our fics with y’all. you’re what keep me going to write a lot of the time and im truly so grateful to each and every one of you. to anyone who has read any of my works, thank you!! i hope you’ve enjoyed reading what i have so far, and stay tuned for 2026! I am definitely not good with words (funny cause I’m a writer right) but I have so much to say for this collab it’s crazy. I started writing for boynextdoor after almost 3 years of contemplating and I will never regret it, I’ve met so many of my good friends on tumblr and even through this collab and I can’t express how grateful I am!
For my collab lovelies, thank you for dealing with my never ending energy and my odd sense of humor. You all are the nicest people ever and I’m so lucky to have gotten to know you all! I hope we continue speaking even after this ends (UNREAL).

hi everyone! i’m not very articulate with my words but i’d like to say how thankful i am to have met such amazing people and writers through this collab! i’ve truly enjoyed every moment with them and their crazy humour (pos). i still remember when gill first told us about the idea of a december collab and being so excited to be apart of it and i’m glad i’ve been able to participate even though there were a lot of times where i’d doubt myself on whether or not i’d be able to live up to the crazy standards i had for myself. to my readers, thank you. thank you for supporting and loving me for the last few months and thank you for making my writing experience so wonderful! i truly do hope to improve as a writer, and i will try my best to do so, for you! to boynextdoor, thank you for being my guiding light these past two years where i’ve gone through many ups and downs (mostly downs), you’ve truly shaped me into a better person and you were the ones i’d turn to at my lowest moments, so thank you for keeping me company during times i didn’t want to exist. and finally, to my twiddly twinkle kins; kati and rosy (and levy @/pupillary), you guys are probably the best part of my blr journey so far and i love you guys so so so much i don’t have the words to describe how grateful i am to have such amazing friends! You guys have truly witnessed every crashout, every happy moment and every one of my most distressing moments in the past few months and i hope that next year, and in the years to come, we stay friends 4eva (and get redbull and yanyan tgt when you come visit!) in 2026, i think i’d like to take a break from writing and focus a bit more on my studies, especially since i’m in my last year of high school and have to get good grades in order to get into university, but please don’t think i’m stepping away permanently, it’ll just be a short hiatus until i complete my exams! i also do hope to be able to write more once i’m free from school, i have so many ideas i’d love to share! anyway i’d just like to say that i hope everyone enjoys the holiday season and happy new year to everybody! hi everyone!! gosh gill had done such a good job organising this event, and i applaud her for that ! i’d also like to thank her for creating this event because i got to meet so many good writers that, much to my surprise, knew ME (insane, i know). i truly enjoyed every single moment spent with them—the game nights (or mornings for me…timezones are insane), the random chats, the memes… you guys slowly felt like family to me, and i hope we’ll stay in touch even after this event ends…

Happy Christmas everyone! I’m in awe of how much my account has grown the past 7 months that I’ve been back, and I couldn’t be more thankful to everyone for all the blessings I have received this year. Truly, in reality, this year has been the hardest for me yet (which was how I ended up coming back to writing for the blr if I am to be truthful…), and although not all of my problems have been resolved, I have never been more grateful for the support and community I have been given. I’m getting a lot of thanks these days, and while I’m grateful for them, in sincerity I am the one who should thank them most—for joining my event and for ending my days on a positive note after such a bustling day. In 2026, I hope to get my life more put together. I do believe that next year will be a lot more busy for me, and I hope to be able to maintain that balance. As The Doorstep Daily ends, I hope everyone who reads this series enjoys it and just as it made me smile, I hope the event has made you smile as well. Thank you so much and have an amazing holiday everyone!

Experts define it as that sudden flicker between people, equal parts electricity, timing, and maybe divine mischief.

Hi everyone! As I’ve mentioned before in a reblog, Kimmi (coriihanniee) has unfortunately pulled out of the collab due to some unforeseen personal reasons, which is why day 14 got pushed back. SYNOPSIS: if love was a feeling, it would be the feeling of sungho’s gaze on you as you study, his fingers tapping the desk softly as he hums along to your explanations of concepts he never knew existed. if love was a feeling, it would be the feeling of sungho’s home cooked meals filling the air of your shared apartment as he makes sure you’re not just living off of ramen and coffee until the end of the semester. and if love was a feeling, it would most definitely be the feeling of sungho consoling you, taking care of you without a word as he holds you close and lets your tears stain his shirt. ·˚ ͙༣· COLLAB MASTERLIST !!
this semester has been doing nothing but kicking you down as you make it past the 15 gruesome weeks of mental torture. with how intense your major had become, you could barely do anything except think about how you just want to be done with it all already.
thankfully, you had sungho by your side, your boyfriend you could lean onto for support, who has been with you the entire semester. he’s always been attentive, lending an ear whenever you needed one as he lets you take out your stress, and then providing either solutions or a comfortable hug as you sort out your emotions before getting back on the grind. and behind the scenes, he’s practically taken on the role of a housewife, taking care of you by letting you focus on getting through all your course-works.
he graduated the past spring, having taken on a job as a gym trainer as he searches for something more aligned with his major. but also, he just wanted to stay close to you in the mean time, having met you on campus through a mutual organization. he never thought he would’ve gotten a chance with you, but here you both are, living together 2 years into the relationship.
“what do you want for dinner, baby?” you hear your boyfriend call out, him on his phone as he looks up recipes. he’d been very into making meals related to the holidays recently, saving whatever he comes across while scrolling through his reels. cooking has been one of his favorite activities so far, and having you taste his food made him even happier.
you just hum back at him, still focused on taking down notes on the purposes of every register in the CPU (you’re still wondering why you need to know these nitty gritty details as you do so).
chuckling, sungho gets the memo. ‘i’m busy, anything is good.’ that’s what the humming means, so that’s what he does, ending up making a simple meal you can have at your desk. at least this way, he can make sure that you’re not living off of instant noodles and coffee everyday. and he’s saving the other recipes for the last day before you leave to go back home for the holidays, hoping he can make it a good start to your break.
there are only 3 more weeks until the end of the semester, and you’re finally starting to feel the weight of your endless assignments and exams lift off your shoulders. you only had your finals left to take, done with presentations and group projects—the bulk of your stressors.
“will you stay at the library with me today?”
“you want me to, honey?”
you nod as you pack your bag, wrapping the cord of your laptop charger into a neat infinity before putting it in. sungho watches you the whole time, sitting on your desk’s chair as he waits. and once you’re done, you both head out to his car.
usually, he drops you off before heading back home to make dinner or going to work. but on the rare occasions you want him by your side, he obliges. it’s hard not to when he loves watching you study, eagerly listening when you need to explain something to him to get a concept.
after a quick car ride, you both arrive at the library, the blond grabbing your bag for you so you didn’t have to carry it yourself. he knows how your shoulders have been aching from the weight of your laptop, too heavy because of how you had bought one before college started based on what was recommended. you can’t say you regret it though (she’s your baby, basically), apart from the inevitable pain that comes after walking around campus and back all day.
the library is bustling with energy as you both walk in, sungho holding your hand as the other held onto the strap of your bag. following behind you into the familiar building, he reminisced the times he studied at the library too. he remembered the late night stays as he watched you code a project while he wrote down flashcards of information to study for his own exams, not to mention the amount of caffeine consumed between the two of you amidst the subpar convenience store food. he spent a lot of time here until he didn’t have to, but being by your side like that felt peaceful to him. and he’s glad he can still support you with simply his presence.
making your way to the uppermost floor, you recited your plan for the day to him as he listened to you attentively. he loved seeing how determined you got, ready to conquer your work as the doors opened up to the quiet atmosphere of your favorite study spot.
another day of endless studying, and this time, you had your boyfriend with you.
sungho got determined to plan the perfect day for you. he’s been seeing you work tirelessly to finish your work, the semester finally coming to an end as the weeks move closer to the holidays.
the numerous projects and exams you had to take were all you could focus on, barely having time to spend with your boyfriend. even though he didn’t ask to spend as much time together, knowing you were busier than ever, it still hurt you to deny him on the rare occasions he did. still, you were grateful that he sat by your side and did his own work while you studied whatever the hell computer architecture is…
“babe, this has got to be the most annoying class i’ve had to take. like come on! i’d rather code than study the parts of the CPU for the umpteenth time!”
well, sungho would agree, but his major wasn’t anything close to yours. still, he tried his best to sympathize, nodding as he reached over to you. he soothingly rubbed your back as he peeked at the presentation you’d been studying out of. “well, you’re almost done! your exam for this class tomorrow is the last one right? and then you’ll be free for the rest of the month, so just keep at it. you can do it baby,” he leaned forward, kissing your shoulder.
now he had to make sure you’d have the best day post-exam.
ever since dropping you off, sungho had been waiting outside the building you had your exam in, parked and playing games on his phone. the plan was simple: wait for you finish the exam, drive back to your place, and while you packed for your trip back home for the holidays, he would make you both an early christmas dinner (since you both wouldn’t be spending it together), after which movies and cuddles!
but those plans would’ve had to wait as he recognized your gloomy figure make its way out of the building you merely 30 minutes later.
he got out of the car right away, going up to you as he pulled you into a soft hug.
“what’s wrong, baby? not go well?”
sungho rubbed your arms up and down as he looked at you, your body falling into his as you hugged him back. he felt your head shake against his chest before you looked to the side and pouted.
“come on, let’s get in the car first,” he whispered, letting go of the hug as he kept one arm around your shoulder to help keep you up. you walked slowly until you both reached the door, him opening it to help you get in before getting into the driver’s seat on the other side.
as soon as the door shut and your boyfriend turned to you, you leaned your head back on the headrest and covered your face with your sweater (he picked out a cute one for you to wear, saying “dressing up will get you to perform better—at least that’s what i heard from the psychologists online.”). you tried not to sniffle or cry, but it was hard when all you could remember was the look of horror as you remembered how you didn’t remember the differences between 2 registers.
“that went horribly,” you muttered, groaning into your clothes as you fell forward to put your head on the dashboard. “i should’ve studied harder!”
sungho patted your back, rubbing circles as he tried to soothe you. the lack of continuance from you made him talk then, “hey, don’t beat yourself down. you did the best you could, y/n. you’ve been studying so hard for the exam.”
“yes… but also, i definitely could’ve done better. there’s so much that i mixed up because of the simple 1-letter differences. argh!!! this major is infuriating!!”
despite finding you adorable at the moment, complaining about the number of acronyms and homonyms you had to memorize, the man tried not to let it show, hiding his face away as he closed his lips tightly.
looking up, you kept going, “you know what! if i have to retake this class, then so be it! i’ll simply just drop out and become a housewife and you have to get married to me and make the money and everything!” at that, you looked to the side to see your boyfriend looking out the window, his expression reflecting off the glass. “HEY!!! PARK SUNGHO! WHAT’S SO FUNNY?!”
that was the last thing sungho needed to finally break out into the laughter he had been holding in. “i’m sorry,” he choked out mid laugh, “you’re just too… cute….”
“what’s so cute about me sulking?!” you pouted at him, scrunching your eyebrows to look intimidating.
that only made him laugh more, head falling back and hitting the glass which made you break as well, a smile appearing on your face as you hid it from him.
at that, he got the hand that was on your back to bring your face to look back at him. “don’t hide your smile from me. if i can make you happy, that’s what matters.”
“don’t be so cheesy, i’m still sad about my exam,” you muttered, feeling your cheeks heat up from his words. no matter how long it had been, he still had this effect on you, and it drove you crazy every time.
clearing his throat, sungho put on his ‘serious mode’ as he grabbed both your hands to hold. “ok princess, what can i do to make you feel better?”
sungho held your hand all the way back home, a mere 10 minute drive from the college. it was quiet, your usual music not being played as you simply sat and thought about how you were done for the semester. no more projects or exams to worry about, no more homework to finish, no more staying up to study until the tiredness caught up to you. it was an odd feeling, because you still had to wait for grades to be uploaded. but apart from that, there wasn’t anything else to do.
once parked, your boyfriend came out to open the door for you, holding his hand out and bowing a bit as he called you “princess,” closing the door behind you after you came out grabbing the extended hand with a giggle.
“what do you want tonight? anything special?”
“anything will do, baby.” you smile up at him as you both walked to your place.
the smell of cherries and oranges hit your nose as you opened the door—the newest festive fragrance he had bought in the beginning of the month. you sighed a breath of relief as you entered, turning on the lights and removing your shoes and jacket.
“alright. i’ll be in the kitchen then. call me if you need help with packing ok?” he leaned forward, kissing the back of your head as he did the same after locking the front door.
2 hours later, you were almost done with packing, only having your essentials left to put into your backpack after you got ready for the flight back the next day. you looked up at the clock then, your stomach grumbling as hunger pang and made you remember what your boyfriend had been doing.
walking out, the feast that decorated the table had your jaw drop as sungho came out of the kitchen holding the last dish—just a simple salad—wearing his messy apron. “you’re here!” he exclaimed as soon as his eyes found yours, setting the dish down and undoing the messy apron to hug you.
“i hope you like it all, i’ve been saving recipes to make for so long… i couldn’t help making as many as i could, especially since it’ll be our last meal together for a while.”
“it’s… beautiful,” you exclaimed, looking at the variety. there were only 5 dishes, but between you both, it was plenty of food to last for days. what caught your eye though was the fruitcake, right in the middle on an elevated cake plate.
you remembered telling him a long time ago about how you used to have it for christmas with your family when you were young, the taste of the sweet fruit cutting through the bready loaf deliciously. and you certainly didn’t think sungho would’ve remembered, but the fact that he did, and even went as far as making it for you both, warmed your heart.
next to the cake sat a bowl of gravy, white and speckled with black peppery dots, and biscuits next to it with butter glistening atop. the salad he’d just made was colorful, leafy greens mixing in with pomegranate maroons, as the shades of the festivity shone through a simple dressing. and whether you ate it or not, sungho had to have a meat dish, so a perfectly cooked steak decorated a cutting board, his favorite cranberry jam on the side. last but not least, a home cooked fried rice never went wrong between you both, one of the most comforting meals you’ve come to love simply because of the way your boyfriend makes it.
the combination of foods was a bit odd, but you could sense how much care went into every single item on the table.
“come, sit!” sungho beamed, proud of how much he was able to make while you were busy. he hoped it was enough to cheer you up, but also didn’t want to bring up anything to remind you of how you may have done on your exam hours ago—though he believed you aced it, but he knew better than to insist his thoughts upon you.
you took another moment just to take in the sight, finally sitting down on the chair he had pulled out. “everything looks so good. i can’t wait to dig in.” you paused for a moment, smiling slightly before looking at him. “but baby, you didn’t ha—”
“shh,” he put his finger on your lips to quieten you, “don’t ever say that. how many times do i have to remind you? i want to. so just sit back and relax, eat until you’re full, and then we’re gonna cuddle and watch a movie until we fall asleep, okay?”
you nod, his finger still on you, after which he takes it off. your smile widens as you look at the food, but you saw his love more than anything in it all.
“thank you, sungho.”
“you’re very welcome, y/n.” he smiled too. “now eat! the movie isn’t going to wait for us!”
