“Oh,” they smoothed the shirt over their chest, pinching it there with their chin, “I think it’s going to fit perfectly. I’ll wear it tomorrow.” They hugged it again then folded it neatly and set it aside.
“Not unusual,” they agreed, “but practically perfect in every way.” Kyung-won could think of one way it could be even more perfect, but they were they’d been since their first shopping trip with River.
They blushed deeply, biting their lip and nodding. Taking the box, they opened it carefully, not a bit of tape or cardboard out of place, then placed the instrument carefully on their knees. They glanced at them, “heh, Xenia taught me this. I hope you like it.” Awkwardly, tentatively, they played the first few bars of St. Vincent’s “We Put a Pearl in the Ground.
“Awesome. Let’s hope so,” River said with a giggle.
“Cheesy. Cheese-ball. Y’know, some people might get sick of your cheesiness,” River said with a laugh, finidhing off their slice of pizza and laying on the floor, “You’re lucky I’m such a sucker, honestly.”
River tilted their head on the ground, angling it to see Kyung-won better as they opened up the glockenspiel, blinking softly as they started playing a song. River instantly recognized it--even though it was a glock and not a piano, it was hard not to.
“Hey,” they said softly after they finished, “I love that song. That was lovely. You gotta teach me, next.”
