'HEADLOST' by Ed Luker.

RIVET. are pleased to announce our second publication, Ed Luker's second chapbook 'HEADLOST'. Risograph printed in collaboration with Foundation Press, Sunderland, it contains eight new poems by the Newcastle based poet. You can purchase it using the paypal link at the end of this post. “Ed Luker’s hi-score on Donkey Kong Jr. became an obsolete metaphor of cultural capital when the banks crashed sometime last semester. He has since been taking legal advice from the board of Jazz Pharmaceuticals and has accordingly replaced his holodeck with three seashells of nominal breadth, each representing, via a curious system of bulbs and splash-panels, myriad neo-imperialist speech impediments which Ed is fluent in de-cathecting. His neon contrast bulk is song consistent.” – Hi Zero. A video of Ed reading the poem Sacred Words can be seen here.

Following the success of the first RIVET, we have decided to do another one. As well as readings/performances we will launch the first RIVET magazine. with: LILA MATSUMOTO CHRISTINA CHALMERS TOM ALLEN (+possibly one more tbc) ____________________________________________ Lila Matsumoto is from Japan and the US and has been living in Scotland for seven years. She currently resides in Edinburgh where she completed her PhD on 1960s experimental poetry magazines. She edits the little magazine SCREE . Her poetry has recently appeared in places such as Jacket2, Dusie, and Internal Leg and Cutlery Preview, and she has performed at festivals including Alloa Poetry Jamboree and Cork SoundEye. - www.screemagazine.wordpress.com "whence the terminator tells the entire kitchen staff to gather around who’s he to say? to tell us to do a stupid dance” ___________________________________________ Christina Chalmers has recently published her first book WORK SONGS with Shit Valley Press. RIVET presents contemporary poetry and artistic practice that intends to challenge and entertain its audience. We hope to create a vibrant and critical space for text based work in Newcastle. --------------------------------------------

Rebecca Wilcox & Sarah Rose will travel down from Glasgow to deliver 'Playing Knots...', a reading of R. D. Laing’s ‘Knots’ into a unique staging exploring the suppressive aspects of rendering a text into a performative piece.

“They are playing a game. They are playing at not playing a game. If I show them I see they are, I shall break the rules and they will punish me. I must play their game, of not seeing I see the game.”

Frances Kruk’s recent publications include DWARF SURGE (yt communication, 2013), Down you go, or Négation de bruit (Punch Press, 2011), and A Discourse on Vegetation & Motion (Critical Documents, 2012). Her work is featured in Infinite Difference: Other Poetries by UK Women Poets (Shearsman, 2010), and selected concrete poems are included in Shift & Switch: New Canadian Poetry (Mercury Press, 2005). She has contributed to numerous literary journals, exhibited visual art in Canada and the UK, and performed poetry and music around Europe and North America. Her full-length collection, lo-fi frags in-progress, is forthcoming later this year. She lives in London.
