In every city in the kingdom there are permanent dates markets and sometimes even seasonal dates Markets/Festivals, where people can buy fresh dates directly from the farmers. . In Riyadh, “Al Rabwah market” is one of the main dates market and It’s where many locals get their dates supply from. This year is the 22 annual seasonal festival. . The first thing visitor would notice when entering the market is the great smell of the fresh sweet dates. The market offers many types of dates brought from all over the kingdom but the most popular types are the “Sukkari” & “khlaas”. . "Souq Okaz" - "سوق عكاظ" . In pre-islam era (over 1500 years), there was a location near the city of Taif, where tribesmen, merchants, nobles and poets from all over Arabia would annually gather and it‘s called Souq Okaz . Souq Okaz was more than just a market with economical value. It was also a center for Arabs to form alliances, set treaties, compete in sports and poetry! . It was not the only market of this kind but definitely the most famous. . In 2006, a new annual festival was set to take place at the exact location of Okaz and it even has the name @soukokaz . The festival is meant to revive the old activities of Souq Okaz and educate people about the old life of arabs with plays, music and a lot of other activities. It‘s woth mentioning that thousands of actors are roaming Souk Okaz to get the visitors into the atmosphere of the old Souk Okaz and they all speak standard Arabic! . It was also a good place for showing off, just like the Boulvard or Al Tahliah street now. . In the mid 80‘s, an urban design change of the street made it lose its glory.
