When Kai dances, he’s more than a moving body; When Kai dances, he’s art. Each turn of his hips, each sweep with his feet, and each facial expression makes his performance.

So many have acknowledged and praised his talent in dancing. There’s a reason why he’s EXO’s main dancer. Every time he moves, he’s pulling you along with him.

It’s almost as if he’s not dancing alone, but with you. You get so absorbed into each movement, that you don’t even realize your eyes are following him until it’s over.

Kai is art, magic, and power.

I want you to sit with me for a moment and really listen to what I have to say. I’ll only be a minute of your time.

Picture with me: a Friday night. Perhaps you are finished school for the week. Perhaps you worked all week and this weekend is free. It’s been kind of hard week for you so you text your friends, ask them to hang out. Perhaps you just chill on your couch or room. Perhaps you go out for dinner and drinks. You take pictures, you post them to snapchat, Instagram, maybe even Facebook. You go to bed that night feeling refreshed, grateful for your friends, and excited to sleep in Saturday morning.

That’s nice isn’t it? It’s nice that you get that freedom, that chance to be yourself with the people you enjoy.

K-pop idols do not get to do that.

Now you may be wondering where I’m going with this, but hang in there with me.

Generally idols sign their contracts as young adults, if not teenagers. An age that you may not fully comprehend the weight of the decision you’re making. Their life is no longer theirs when those contracts are signed. Much like the military, they are now property to their company. And yes, that’s how it’s seen. They are property, an asset. Not a human.

So let’s do another imagine together, friends. You started dating someone. This person makes you so very happy, their smile is what you live for. Perhaps you are even ready to call it love. You want to spend every second with them. When you’re apart your heart aches. You text them constantly. You want them to meet your friends, your family, you want to show everyone how much you love them. Show them this other half of yourself that yo didn’t know was missing. You take pictures when you’re together, post them online. The two of you stay up all night talking. Maybe you have not experienced this before, but don’t worry, you will.

K-pop idols don’t get to do that.

You may be thinking, “well they know that going into this career.” But really think about that. Is that fair? Is it fair that not only do they sign their lives and privacy away they sign away their right to love? And how about the fact that if/when an idol falls in love he/she cannot share it with some of the people they care about most: their fans. The people who are supposed to love and support them, who have watched them grow over the years, who they love so dearly.

Can you really imagine how bad that feels? One of the members of U-Kiss got married and stayed married for over a year (?) and didn’t tell his fans until his wife got pregnant.

How awful. How completely hurtful and sad for them. To have this joy and this happiness that you can’t share with the people who you should be able to share it all with. Who should be happiest for you.

So don’t you dare tell me an idol doesn’t love his/her fans because they started dating someone. Because they “hid” it. Because they went and did things with their significant other. You say you want your bias to be happy? Don’t you think that other person is where they get happiness? Don’t you think going on dates and trips with that person is their way of relaxing and enjoying themselves? You, the fans, are not the soul source of an idol’s happiness. You do not own them. You are not entitled to their life.

K-pop idols give up everything for you. Their lives, their friends, their family, their privacy. How dare you feel any ounce of anything less than excitement for your bias when they can find someone to share their lives with. They deserve love and happiness. Even if it’s possibly a myth, possibly a cover up for something else. Whatever opinions you share on the internet where they can read it should be nothing but support and kindness.

If you can’t do that. If you can’t be positive and happy for someone who doesn’t even know you exist. Than you shouldn’t call yourself a fan. You should call yourself a stalker.

It’s okay to be sad for yourself, to message your good friends and maybe even cry a little. But you do what any normal human does. You get some ice cream, watch The Notebook, cry yourself to sleep, and move on. Some of you are young and you really may not get it. And if you don’t, then you need to log offline for five minutes and do something else outside of K-pop. The real world isn’t nice and if you can’t handle your favorite member of a group dating someone how the fuck to you plan to handle your actual life?
