i really hope the lack of glasses in the knightfall bts and trailers are because they chose scenes in which jpv took them off and not that they decided to forego the glasses. please please please. the little 6'2" nerd needs his spectacles.

Right after Jean-Paul runs away, he finds a secluded spot and puts on the Azrael mask.

At this point in his story, Azrael is simply a tool for violence. JPV only lets Azrael take the proverbial reigns when someone needs to be pummeled, and then Azrael's personality, and his vestments, go back into a nice little tidy box, and JPV continues with his life.

In this page, we see JPV use Azrael not as a weapon against adversaries, but as a shield against his own feelings.

He is hiding within Azrael. When he feels an unwanted emotion, which, in this case, could either be embarrassment, his feelings towards Lilhy, or just confusion about what he's feeling, he retreats into Azrael; putting on the mask triggers Azrael's personality, making whatever his feeling either Azrael's problem, or completely squashing his feelings as Azrael's personality takes over.

So what does this mean? Maybe that Jean-Paul has poor emotional regulation because instead of dealing with the feelings and emotions, he pushes the issue onto Azrael (As we see in Sword of Azrael (2022) #5):

But also that, even though Jean-Paul, on the surface, rejects Azrael as a part of him, subconsciously accepts Azrael as a part of him, even if he's using Azrael as a scapegoat for unwanted feelings and emotions. If Azrael, scary violent angel, is going to be a part of Jean-Paul, then Azrael is going to take all the scary violent parts of Jean-Paul too.
