fun fact that cain uses less conventional nicknames / terms of endearment for people he cares about. @missionled‘s 52, for example, has been dubbed ‘ squirrel ‘.  if he ever miraculously got an S/O and they are comfortable with it, cain is absolutely the person to call them  ‘ teacup ‘  /  ‘ buttercup ‘  and similar terms regardless of presenting gender.  

his terrifying impression makes a complete 180 when it comes to verbal shows of care.  he doesn’t have a concept of ‘cute’, but he does choose nicknames based on what he associates the person with, and in particularly with an S/O he will often look to things we consider soft and cute.  something that invokes his instinct to protect it.  yes, that includes the word ‘ kitten ‘ in perfectly mundane situations.

he does still use the common ones, such as ‘ dear ‘, ‘ love ‘, and ‘ darling ‘, but they’re more so a supplement than the primary choice.

some more discord excerpts  re : cain’s anger. 

He's got like... stages.  There's actual rage / the one expressed when he's about to rip out an enemy's throat, e.g. for hurting a loved one. Truly hostile. 

 Then there's what's happening in the confrontation with Hank. That's a fury born of uncertainty and frustration; doesn't know what else to do, so he defaults to anger.  And in that scenario a tinge of fear.  But it's difficult to tell apart from the first. 

 And then there's the one that is straight up desperation. The ' please be mad at me '.  Shouting at someone else, be angry at them in hopes of them retaliating.  The kind of anger that will start off as hostile, but frustration comes quite quickly, like a dog barking up at a tree, depending on the other person's response. 

 The telltale sign of all these are his eyes. They are gradually softer over the stages, and absolutely devastated in the last. That's not hate or contempt, but this mixture of fear and misery.
