hyunjin had never done anything like this before. even though hyunjin talked a bunch of shit behind her motherâs back, she never even thought of doing something that went against her mom. it never crossed her mind that while her mom was dead asleep, she could just slip out the house, do whatever she wanted for a few hours, and then be back before her mom even woke up.
it was a terrifying thought, but⊠if she was honest, it was thrilling at the same time. she always wanted to be someone who did as she pleased, with no regard for the consequences. it was enticing, and tonight, olivia had somehow managed to convince hyunjin that yes, this was happening, and yes, she would love it. and hyunjin already did.
sheâd gone to her dance lessons as she usually did on a wednesday night. but when she got home, sheâd managed to convince her mom that she didnât feel good. it took half an hour of back and forth, but her mom finally agreed to let her go to bed early. honestly, hyunjin should just take the sleep she could finally get. but, sheâd made arrangements with olivia and she didnât want to go back on her word â or miss out on whatever adventures the two were gonna have that night.
so when all the lights in the house were off, hyunjin quietly walked towards her parents room, looking through the crack of the door and listening for the sounds that her mom was definitely asleep. her father wasnât home, but sheâd heard her momâs phone conversation with him and he was gonna be spending the night at work anyway, which wasnât unusual for him in the slightest.
hyunjin quietly walked down the stairs and found the alarm system. she had the pin number memorized from watching her mom input it every night. her heart started beating faster as she pressed each dimly lit number.
what if she had the wrong number? what if her mom noticed her watching that night and decided to change it?
her finger hit the last number and she held her breath, before the words âdisarmedâ flashed on the screen. hyunjinâs face broke out into a smile.
hyunjin open the door slowly, before closing it behind her. she looked around, the cool air of the night hitting her thighs and causing her top to move with the wind. when she didnât see anyone else, she started sprinting down the sidewalk at full speed.
she had done it. she was free.Â
now she just had to meet olivia at the park and their night could begin.
olivia had been reckless since she was 13, and anyone who knew her knew she was a bad influence when it came to drinking, or sneaking out of the house, or doing things teen girls shouldnât be doing. which was why when hyunjin offhandedly mentioned the idea of sneaking out, barely seriously, olivia had jumped at the idea, persuading her to live a little.
if you never sneaked out of the house did you really ever have any fun? the amount of times olivia stayed out late or snuck out of her uncleâs house would send many reeling. she spent more nights out than she did in, and hearing hyunjin dabble in the idea of being reckless for once had olivia excited to bed the worst influence she could be.
it was all with hyunjinâs best interests at heart though - to olivia, being rebellious was what teenagers did. sneaking out was like a right of passage, and if she could give her friend advice on how to do that, and show her sneaking out was worth it, then she was going to put all her effort into it. so, sheâd offered a few tips, told her what was the best way to make it out undetected, and then set up a meeting in the park near hyunjinâs house.Â
as the meeting time neared olivia wondered whether hyunjin would really do it or not. would she chicken out and just text olivia that sheâd changed her mind? of course, she wouldnât hold it against her - olivia was going to be out whether hyunjin came or not, so she wasnât losing anything but waiting for her for a little while. it would be a shame, olivia thought, if she backed out though, since sheâd planned a night of fun for hyunjin, and didnât exactly want it to go to waste.Â
but just as she was thinking about what sheâd do if hyunjin bailed she spotted a familiar figure by the park entrance, walking briskly. she couldnât help but grin as she stood from the bench where sheâd been waiting, proud of her friend for really going through with it. lifting a hand she waved to catch hyunjinâs attention, starting off towards her to meet her halfway.Â
she had a lot of things planned for them, and she was eager to get the night started.
