From a uni workshop we dis with George sanders Jackson, a bristol based animator. We were given a task to bring in an object of value to ourselves and create a narrative with it. I decided on bringing in my bracelet my boyfriend gave to me at boomtown festival in 2013. Using details from the bracelet, I zoomed in and created the night sky over the festival fields. I really enjoyed his workshop as I used to use charcoal quite a lot, and it helped me think more about narratives and a new perspective.

Our almost finished version of the poster for the exhibition, Sam and beth were the main designers, using a picture I took on the ale while we filmed the shadow play, we also used the type face I have used through out the videos I made for us, "Andes regular" on da font.com.

These are the posters for "burns night" performance made by Sam, she's work really hard on making the posters and bottles. Unfortunately we all made a group decision, the images on the pictures were too poor quality to use, so instead we all helped make a new one ready for the exhibition.

As well as finishing the exhibition space, I also finished and published the shadow collective website: Theshadowcollective.weebly.com I made sure my group new all the decisions I made for the layout of the pages, Emma, Beth and Sam were all happy with the outcome and so am I. I think making a website just makes it all look more professional as a collective and also helps tie everything together. I've added drop menus that can direct the viewer to our individual blogs and twitters, a home page and a page for the shadow play itself. Our group email is very obvious in our contact menu and we also have a message box people can write in on the same page. I'm very proud of this website!

So as mentioned before we would be showing our puppet show on Burns day. Our intention is to have two shows, each will be half an hour long.

We would have a daytime show for children that would be followed up with a workshop whereby they would make there own puppet.

Then we would have a night time showing. This showing would include a dram (A shot of whiskey) and a taster of the traditional Burn’s night dinner of haggis, neeps and tatties.

The event would be hosted at Alloway Kirk in Ayr, what makes Shadow Collective unique is that we only tell stories that involve a real place. If a location really inspired a writer then the story should be told in that place.

I did some research to help us plan for how much we should charge for the events and the average came in at £8 for the childrens showing and £15 for the adults showing as the food & beverage is included.

Exhibition space is now complete and ready for tomorrow! Even when it came to putting up our installation we still worked as a team, we all made sure we shared our thoughts on where this went, the layout at the end of it was the best outcome for sure. Below the monitor that plays out films displays our puppets made of mdf, because they are arm height, it's a signifier that you can pick them up and try them out. Our lighting behind out box works really well with the rest of the space and the curtain really helps take away lighting from the window. All in all its been a good few days!

Still working on our website, only 2 days to go until our exhibition t f block in use bower Ashton. I just need to wait to publish it until tomorrow, I will then have the film ready to put on the website too!

a sound scape that I made at the very start of the project. I was obsessing over the phrase “dreich” a scottish words for glum weather. its funny that we based our project on a scottish poem (Tam O’shanter By Rubert Burns) just after i had created this, i fell like this helped me alot in editing and getting back into making music and sound.

Personal manifesto from semester 1: Method: I experiment as much as I can with whatever materials are available and can benefit me and my project. I like to help others in their projects, in a way it helps me progress in my own. I believe working and communicating in a group environment helps project ideas and make them more clear. Inspiration: I’m influenced by nostalgia, If I can make a connection to a memory using a project, I work in leaps and bounds. It’s all about thought process. I’m also strongly inspired by childhood cartoons and film, it’s can be because a certain aspect of a scene, the cinematography or even the audio. I feel unafraid when it comes to ideas, I try to be as confident as I can and get on with it. Nausicaa and the valley of the wind is my aspirations I hope I can be as strong and confident as nausicaa.

Strengths: I believe my strengths are in problem solving, communication, oragisation, traditional print, filming and editing. To me, editing a film or video is therapeutic and so satisfying to do, when timing is done write, or when you find the perfect song to edit to, it all makes it worth it.

I think we were well on track and up to date on the majority of the project, i am still however still putting finishing touchesonto film editing and exporting onto dvd.

working has a team has definately made this experience easier, we’ve all worked to our strengths as well as helping eachother with our weaknesses. what i’ve learnt most about doing a group project is that communication is key, you need to always make sure youre telling everyone what you are doing and why you are doing it.

this was from when we met up with clock work moth, a shadow puppet theatre that take their show on tour. their latest play was “The devil and the three golden hairs,” based on a grimm fairy tale.

I was the one who found that they were playing at cube cinema, an independent cinema based i bristol, it was like fate that they were playing that month! myself, emma and beth went to the play (sam unfortunately had work and couldnt make it), but before hand I had organised with charlie and victoria (the founders of clock work moth) to go behind the scene and see how they created the play.

they us alot of good advice with materials to use for the puppets, how to get movement right and lighting for our own show.

their play was really amazing, it was 30 minutes long and i can’t believe magical it was even now, it really put things into perspective for all of us and made us realize how great shadow puppetry really is.

Almost finished with video editing for film and making of the shadow collective promo. I'm also putting touches onto our website that also links into our individual blogs and twitters!!!

First day of setting up the exhibition! we finally decided where everything is laid out, we're now just installing the frame for the curtain, putting up the monitor to show the film and more!

So a lot of progess has been made the last few days, we finally finished all the scenes and sorted all our new puppets out for filming (mainly Emma, Beth and Sam making scenes while I filmed them for more promo videos.)

today we did all the filming ready to show at the exhibition next week, a monitor will be playing it at our display.

I put together all the footage and edited it to flow, also changing the colour as the lights were previously to yellow in the footage. Im now testing out sound effect and other audio to go with it, using audacity and movie maker to make sure I have the timing. Beth also contributed to the sounds as she plays the cello, playing beautiful and scratchy music and noises to create ambience. I think it works really well so far!!!
