My First International Trip
It was my first time to travel internationally. On the month of January, three years ago, I decided to go to Singapore. My friend, who I've known since college had already been living there for quite some time. And since, I have just finished my responsibilities at work, I decided to treat myself on a whim.
The flight to Singapore was quite short. I believe, it didn't last for more than two hours. To my surprise, I didn't feel too excited to be in another country. But once, I step out of the airport, I suddenly felt queasy and a bit nervous.
I took a shuttle bus that would drop me off to my accommodations. For this trip, I decided to stay at a backpacker's hostel. It was cheaper and more practical for me. Included with my accommodations was breakfast of toasted bread of butter or jam. But I remember, eating the cup noodles and milo I brought with me. I don't know why but I still wanted to bring a piece of home I can't live without in the mornings.
My friend works as an architect in Singapore. She's quite busy so I was lucky enough that my brother decided to accompany me on this trip. Singapore can be at times overwhelming. I felt a completely different way of living especially in terms of taking public transportation. Everything was very organized and very systematic if I can say that.
But what I remember loving most about this place is the food. Food in Singapore can be quite cheap or too expensive for just one sitting but one thing's for sure, it's very delicious and healthy. I remember eating a complete meal of veggies, meat, rice and soup. But my favourite was the grilled chicken with rice which I usually frequent in hawker centers.
Besides the food and the efficient public transportation, I also visited some remarkable places for tourists and locals alike. One of these was Universal Studios in Sentosa. Universal Studios is where people should go if they want to experience insane, gives-you-a-heart-attack theme park rides. It's also a place for meeting your favourite onscreen characters. I remember having my picture taken with 'Betty Boop' and not much else since oddly enough, I was too shy to approach them.
Other remarkable places I went to were Chinatown and Little India. I remember feeling it was  actually like being in those countries themselves. The food, people and buildings were very much depictive of what it would possibly be like if I had gone to either.
I had visited other beautiful and notable places in Singapore. The well-known Singapore Zoo, Clark Quay, Marina Bay, City Hall and Raffles place. But I'm mostly thankful for the whole experience of being in this small yet lovely country, to get to know different kinds of cultures as well as take with me the knowledge and in-depth appreciation for the things I am blessed to have in my life.
