summer's officially over LOL here's a detailed summary of 激闘甲虫大決戦～知恵と勇気で昆虫バトル～, the beetle battle event from arb from last year. saburo is so cute in this. im going to cry
-story starts with saburo in his room having just cleared a new game centered around rhinoceros beetles. he'll give it credit for novelty but the craftsmanship was whatever lol. he hasnt played any interesting games lately... he should try doing something else for fun but hes not sure what.
-it cuts to ichiro and jiro talking about a soccer game jiro won that day, he pulled off a hat trick!! saburo hears it and considers soccer but he doesnt want anything related to Exercise. ichiro tells him theres plenty of other fun things to do outside gaming, jiro mentions soccer, basketball, skateboarding, baseball... which are all sports but he should try them anyway because he doesnt move nearly enough lol but saburo's like Why would he tire himself out on purpose. other than sports ichiro mentions fishing or mountain-climbing or stuff but saburo still isnt interested...
-the tv is on and there's a special feature on a huge rhino beetle battle. ichiro comments that it's cool and jiro suggests bug-hunting to saburo, which saburo shoots down because hes not an elementary schooler--unless? he privately comments that the thing the program's doing might be interesting: gathering a bunch of rare rhino beetles and making them fight to see which is the strongest... and fortunately he has an idea where there might be some rare rhino beetles...) jiro has good ideas sometimes huh. saburo declares it'll be his new interest :) though he has to go into the mountains after all...
-scene changes to doppo and hifumi in their apartment. doppo's in a good mood because he has a day off for the first time in a while, hes excited to sleep the Whole day!! but hifumi suggests going out since it's summer, though doppo's convinced it's the opposite, it's unreasonable to go out in the insane heat. theyre watching the same program as above and hifumi reminds doppo they used to do this together before. doppo thinks it's nostalgic except for the fact that doppo apparently caught a cockroach by mistsake and actually kept it in an insect cage lmao.
-hifumi suggests doppo go bug-hunting, regardless of his age, rare beetles sell for a lot so wont it be fun to go thinking of it as a part-time job?? doppo considers it because he also has an idea where he might find some rare beetles so he makes up his mind to follow hifumi's suggestion lol
-scene changes to ramuda in his office complaining about a creative block, he cant think of designs for his next collection. dice shows up asking to be fed because he hasnt eaten in three days which ramuda easily agrees to because hes been thinking of taking a break anyway! apparently when he asked gentaro he said unfriendly and scathing stuff like. wasnt he ashamed as a person for throwing away all his money he couldve used for food. then again hes not even a person anymore just an existence called Daisu who feels no shame lol.
-ramuda orders pizza! stuffed crust per dice's request! dice was so hungry he ate 5 L-size pizzas by himself even though ramuda was full by his third slice which dice thinks is too little... anyway the program is on ramuda's tv too and dice mentions he used to do that stuff when he was a kid. ramuda's amazed that there are some cool rhino beetle species... it might be cute to incorporate that into his designs!! but hes not sure where to find them, he wants to see them in the wild... dice suggests riosan's forest because the ecosystem there is crazy lol. ramuda decides to go to riorio's forest :)
-scene cuts to doppo having fun the next day. he's seen a palawan stag beetle (from the philippines!! woo!!!), a neptune beetle, and archides stag beetle!! as expected from the place where busujimasan lives lol. he spots a hercules beetle and goes to catch it but he bumps into saburo who calls him kankangakugakuzaka doriru kjlKLSGJKJFDKJDKF and doppo's like only the Kan and Zaka and Do were right help me. help me.
-saburo ignores his complaint to ask him if hes after that heracles beetle too which he is but doppo doesnt wanna beef with a middle schooler so he says he'll let saburo have it- saburo says it's His to begin with so theres no Letting him have it agh. saburo's happy to have it because it's so impressive, he could look at it all day.... doppo mentions he's caught the stuff above after saburo asks then saburo gets mad calling it unfair, he hasnt caught that much yet!!! then uhm. a lion shows up out of nowhere
-scene cuts to ramuda who hasnt found anything rare yet. he thinks he should go deeper into the forest but doppo and saburo have just run out of there and ramuda wonders why osabusabu and dopochi are here... the lion's chased them all the way there and saburo tells ramuda that this forest's so unusual it's actually not strange for a lion to be here lmao ramuda's just like なにそれーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー！？ i know. lol
-just when theyre about to get eaten riou saves them :) ramuda thanks him and saburo asks if he killed the lion, but riou just made it lose consciousness with a rubber bullet. then riou deadass lifts the lion, which he can do because he's a soldier, naturally. saburo doesnt think it's natural though lol. riou invites them to come with him so he can cook them a meal. not using the lion meat, it doesnt taste good or anything lol hes just moving the lion deeper into the forest because it's dangerous to leave it out here. saburo really thought since it's busujma he'd eat lion lol
-at riou's base camp he serves up today's menu: shiny-skinned ant caviar called escamoles (a mexican delicacy according to google!), salt-grilled snake, and medicinal bat soup :) ramuda's iffy about it but doppo says even if busujimasan's ingredients are Rough the flavor is always good! saburo also says even if it's hard to look at once you get used to it it doesnt matter. doppo and saburo happily eat it :) riou asks if amemura's not gonna eat... ramuda says he had a big breakfast so! it cant be helped
-riou then asks what everyone's doing. saburo came to hunt rare rhino and stag beetles, and doppo and ramuda say them too. riou understands that, theres a bunch of rare ones in this forest. saburo asks him if he knows a spot with many of them and riou says he does :) he wouldnt lie about it :)
-ramuda's happy to see a bunch of insects he's never seen before. saburo's also excited about a bunch of beetles that shouldnt be in japan and doppo wants to let loose. riou's just happy theyre happy :) they go off to catch some and riou tells them to go do it to their heart's content :) riou makes me feel so :) uuuu. uu.
-saburo's admiring a lion scarab beetle, it's the first time he's seen one in person and it's really pretty. ramuda swoops in to take it 'cause first come first served. doppo sees a silver insect and riou tells him it's a platinum scarab beetle, it's an especially shiny platinum beetle species. riou is fairly knowledgeable with insects but says he's far from scholars who make it their living.
-then. some other insect hunters show up and start demanding for them to hand over everything theyve caught lol?? also they have mics. illegal i assume? there's 12 of them but ramuda calls them stupid for challenging them. one of the insect hunters finally recognizes them as members of finalist teams in drb and theyre just like. what the hell are they even doing in a place like this. they decide to put their mics away and ask for a peaceful battle with their bugs on the line. ramuda thinks that's bo~ring
-they suggest an insect battle. the thing where you put your bugs on a log and make them fight, peaceful and picturesque, no?? lmao. they decide to go with that instead lol. first one to take down three of the opponent wins. riou steps in as the referee, he prepares the log and everything. :)
-ramuda goes first with his neptune beetle against the guy's archides stag beetle. riou thinks the latter might be stronger but he wont know until they start. referee riou starts the round and doppo notes that amemurasan's neptune beetle is getting pushed back to the edge of the ring... but it pushed back from there and won!!
-doppo was about to go but saburo goes ahead of him for no reason lol this time with his hercules beetle, he even tells the enemies to put two against it he's just That Confident because it's the king of stag beetles lol so they put two palawan beetles up instead of the one caucasus beetle one of them had originally. saburo nicknames his beetle carnage in katakana. crying in real life why is he so baby. he wins instantly lol. the enemies are like.. .. theyre strong at rap And bug battles.. . .. they back off completely then, ramuda and saburo had the time of their lives lmao but doppo didnt get a turn... so ramuda suggests letting riorio join so the four of them can battle! how sweet was this story :(((((((
