AMC AMX/3: It was to be American Motors answer to Ford’s Pantera and the anticipated mid-engine Corvette. Richard Teague led the design team that included Bob Nixon, Vince Geraci, and Chuck Mashigan to style the car. Giotto Bizzarrini’s operation located in Turin, Italy would hand build them using AMC’s 390 cu in (6.4 L) V8 engine mated to an Italian OTO Melara four-speed transaxle.
An order for thirty cars was placed, but only five were built before American Motors had to shut the project down for lack of funds. A sixth car was later completed from remaining parts.
