The Exorcist ā Predicting the Climax of 2.10
After Tomas becomes possessed and is on the brink of integration, Marcus will have to exorcise and save him in 2.10. In 2.01 and 2.02, a possessed Cindy told Marcus and Tomas their greatest fears were losing each other; Marcus is afraid Tomas will abandon him like God and heāll lose him like he lost his āfriendā, and Tomas is afraid that Marcus is scared of him and doesnāt accept who he is. In order to save Tomas by tapping into his own spiritual strength, Marcus will have to overcome the fear of losing him to a demon and his failure to exorcise it like he did before in 2.10. By doing so, heāll find the words that heās lacked, words of mercy, forgiveness, and compassion, and find God again by confessing to himself and to Tomas that he loves him, saving him, and the two of them ultimately saving each other.
This has been foreshadowed throughout both seasons, and since the very beginning of the show, when Tomas was sent to Marcus based on visions he assumed were from God, similar to his powers⦠but as Marcus said, heās being āmanipulated by forces you canāt even begin to understand.ā
Based on a theory of mine from several weeks ago (since 2.02 with Marcusās speech about his āfriendā and this 2.04 scene both aired)Ā [A continuation of Marcusās friend paralleled with Tomas, Tomasās arc and grooming, the island demon drawing him closer, and forces of destiny conspiring to rip them apart ā all of which were confirmed in 2.06].
in my ideal world the exorcist goes on for at least six seasons and ends with
marcus fighting the good fight for many years but eventually retiring to the island off of seattle with peter instead of dyingĀ āin some stinking room with one of those things standing over youā like he was so sure he would
tomas assumes the mantle of #1 badass exorcist and takes on his own apprentice (and visits marcus and peter every chance he gets and especially when heās super fucked up from his latest mission). plus, sometimes marcus still helps with tough exorcisms.
bennett getting injured becomes a meme but he always recovers and always does multiple badass things every season, often in spite of his injuries.Ā and eventually marcus and tomas call him devon instead of his surname bc all three become best buds.Ā bennett becomes head of the newly reinstated exorcist office and eventually is in the running for pope.Ā he also gets to retire and not die at the hands of a demon.

i see all of your facts about marcus being exclusively gay but you have missed the greatest Fact of them all.. he's a gay who cant drive.. everyone knows bisexuals r the only ones in the lgbt who can drive and since marcus doesnt that means hes gay check and mate
This is almost true anon but itās more complicated than it appearsā¦. time to dive in. #meta #theory and criticism #gay history #toxic masculinity ššš¦
Marcus actually DOES drive in 2.02, but context is everything and I believe it only further reveals Marcus is a full-blown homosexual. See, Marcus is singing to Tomas the song we first heard in 1.01 by lesbian haircutĀ icon Patsy Cline:
I go out walkinā after midnightOut in the moonlightJust like we used to do, Iām always walkināAfter midnight, searchinā for you (wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)I walk for miles along the highwayWell, thatās just my wayOf sayinā I love you, Iām always walkināAfter midnight, searchinā for you (wa-wa-walking, wa-wa-walking)
Tomas and Marcus have been on the road for six months and this is right after their first case where Tomas had a vision and Marcus is deathly afraid for Tomas in the same way he was deathly afraid for someone he loved before. This is what they used to do. Marcus is searching for Tomas even as heās sitting in the next seat bc he doesnāt know whatās happening to him. Driving is his way of saying ILU. Possessed Cindy even literally taunts him with extremely loaded sexual statements about Tomas.Ā āFrom the insideā?Ā āHe let me inā? And then this:
(This is NOT the first time Tomas + a woman has been demonized⦠in 1.05 Marcus was literally exorcising the heterosexuality out of him):
The demon is doing this to pique his jealousy, aggression and bitterness to form a void between Tomas and Marcus, associating his feeling of abandonment with God that the same thing is going to happen with Tomas.
Marcus is only driving because heās afraid for Tomas⦠remember that Tomas literally almost ran them off the road the afternoon before, nearly killing them, an innocent woman, and letting her dickbag #bluelivesmatter husband catch them even if they survived.
Also Tomas is tired and it gives Marcus an excuse to watch him while heās sleeping.
But Marcus isnāt WRONG about his fears⦠even though Marcus is the one temporarily driving Tomas changes the radio, retaining the ultimate authority, and the song he changes it to is the one from the episode before with Caleb⦠the demon is drawing them to the island all the way from Montana. Marcus is driving only as a facilitator, ultimately at the whim of Tomas and thus the external forces seeking to crush him and split him from Marcusā warnings. Heās a desperate to please, circumstantial service top.
IMO I think your initial point was right and that Marcus canāt drive because there are several instances in season one where a rental would have straight up been more convenient (he toured Chicago for a week and watched Tomas and sketched him š before breaking into his apartment), like avoiding public transit or like⦠straight up driving the pope away from the demons, getting in a car himself as heās literally bleeding out, etc. This gay disaster.
(me running tbh)
This is #confirmation that Tomas taught him how to drive obviously, one of those late life experiences where Marcus hasĀ āhad the time of his lifeā in the six months theyāve spent on the road together, after Marcus told him in 1.08 to become an exorcist⦠bc he canāt drive. He rides trains and buses and shit everywhere and itās getting inconvenient. Also damn heās lonely af and canāt live like this anymore after TomasĀ āopened a humanity in him.ā āļø
But Tomas forced him to learn he canāt top ALL the time and Marcus will listen to Tomas (as long as it doesnāt endanger Tomas himself or others), like remember when Tomas put his foot down in 2.06 and Marcus heeded⦠that inner bottom coming out.
Like also even earlier in that episode Marcus is just sitting his ass on the car instead of driving around looking for Tomas somewhere⦠he wonāt drive unless itās for him. Heās literally sitting his ass on the car, not in the car, not in the driverās seat, on the rear end of the car. What kind of visual symmetry? Michelangelo who? Second only to this masterpiece:
Heāll only drive performatively, heāll only facilitate driving a truck, a classic symbol of American masculinity, if itās in service to Tomas. A facade, a mask, an act⦠we already saw this with Peter leaning into into Marcus, who returned the advance even tho he was trembling.
Season two is all about Marcus realizing and fully embracing heās a bottom. What better way to establish that then have Tomas drive in the opening shot, fall to darkness and not do it again, have Marcus take over him as heās experiencing a mid-life sexual identity crisis afraid Tomas will abandon him (pull out) while Tomas is insecure Marcus is afraid of him (will be too tight/pent up/closed off). What kind of beautiful gay metaphor to air on modern day network television? And coming from Fox? This is ofc why they arenāt banging yet bc Tomas is already a top and he doesnāt think theyāre compatible. Little does he know. šš»
In conclusion Marcus is a service top with emotional vulnerability issues whoās actually a power bottom and is only up to the task when he has his #sign from god #miracle #angel from heaven Tomas and this is why Marcus driving still lets him be gay anon. Like what would the counterargument be bc there isnāt one I wonāt regret this at all POST ASK Monday Nov. 21st 11:18 PM 2017
