New work in progress :)
A short edit of my work from America.
The Cornish Americans
During the 1840âs, Cornwallâs booming mining industry began to crumble. As Cornish mining became less profitable, many mines closed down, forcing workers to find employment elsewhere. With little opportunity now in Cornwall, miners started taking their expertise in hard rock mining overseas. From North America to South Australia, the Cornish started migrating to countries rich with new opportunity. By the turn of the 20th century more than 250,000 people had left Cornwall during what was called âThe Great Migrationâ, in search of work and a better life for their families. Subsequently, Cornish culture has been reinvented in the United States. This series highlights the influences generations of Cornish men and women have had on North America, through present day Cornish American descendents of âGreat Migrationâ expats, in the mining regions of Michigan and Wisconsin.

Around 20% of the Cornish male population migrated abroad from ports such as Fowey, Padstow and Looe. Many were forced to leave family and loved ones behind in search of better wages and greater opportunities. In total, the county lost over a quarter of a million people between 1841 and 1901.Â
The Cornish Americans & The 'Great Miner's Migration'.
In short:
This year I will be making a documentary story on the 'Great Migration' of Cornish miners to the U.S over the 19th and 20th century. I plan to shed light on the reasons for the migration and travel to areas of U.S in the new year to document present day Cornish Americans and the reinvention of Cornish culture.Â
