DEAR TUMBLR: I HAVE SOME IDEA'S
(AS SOMEONE WHO'S RECENTLY REALIZED I REALLY WANNA BE A ROBOT REALLY FUCKIN BAD)
I see ALOT of tumblr users (including me) express their feelings of not wanting to be human, to change into something more idea, like a robot, catboy, or any other nonhuman being that feels like it would be liberating, something that would free yourself from the expectations of being human and give you some nice wiggle room to just.. be you.
and I think that that's a great idea, however!! there's not really a good term that feels like it can incapsulate that (otherkins are close, but usually more about spiritual stuff in the sense of "oh, my soul is that of ___" which isn't BAD ofc, and it works for some, but it doesn't feel the same is all. alterhuman is also a good contender, but again, just doesn't fit right fully. And xenogender are GREAT, but of course, focus more on gender then, well, the whole IDENTITY being something nonhuman.)
SO: my idea is that we come up with a term for just that! For that feeling of wanting to be what you dreamed of, even if its something silly like an enderman from minecraft, or a dnd slime, or really anything! Tbh, it doesn't even have to be humanoid!! Just as long as its something you feel expresses a more authentic form of you!!
And thus, i present to you all: Re-dentity's!! (and the many other terms that will be following it in this thread) Short for Rebuilt Identity, "Re-dentifying" is a term based on the idea of making a alternate identity of sorts for yourself that's more true to what you want to be, essentially "Rebuilding" your identity! It can be used for both online and offline spaces, think of it kinda like unmasking with neurodivergence, or even cracking with being trans!
Main point is: it's about finding yourself, and letting yourself explore different identity's you might not have thought of at first! this can coincide with gender and sexuality exploration, but its not necessarily having to do with that, but more with your identity as a whole.
"Wait, so what would my old identity be if i chose to "Re-dentify?" Why, that would be your Base-dentity, or your Base identity! It's basically all of what you were beforehand, and might still be used in situations like having to protect your Re-dentity from people who might get fussy or worse over it (because some people dont like the idea of humans being anything BUT human or what they were born as, and that sucks >:[ )
now, onto "-dentity's" A suffix that can be used when talking about something as a Identity (mainly when talking about Rebuilt Identity's, but that's just because it's mostly used to talk about identity's you rebuilt yourself as), for example: Cat-dentity for cat-like identity's, Robo-dentity for robot and technological based identity's, Alien-dentity for extraterrestrial identities, and so on! I tend to keep them pretty open on topic/theme because i think that makes it easier and more clear, but you can get as in-depth and niche as you want ^_^ Also kinda think of them as like races/species in dnd, since there usually in that category as opposed to being, say, an occupation/job. ie: "i identify with dogs" instead of "i identify with office works" (tho ofc if you want you can integrate that into your overall identity as a person, just like a dnd character or oc!!)
"Wait, so, how would i say I'm, say, trans masc, demiboy, pansexual, who's rebuilt/identifying as a robot and uses he/they pronouns?" well, you'd be something along the lines of a he/they pansexual transmasc demiboy Robo-dentity!! (I'm TOTTALY not calling myself out here)
