At the centre of the film is Dave Shepard, played by Jake Ryan with a convincing blend of resilience and exhaustion. Dave isn't a conventional action hero. He's a man trying to get home to his family, burdened by financial pressures and bad luck, which makes his descent into chaos feel grounded rather than contrived. Ryan's performance anchors the film emotionally, giving weight to a character who could easily have become just another genre archetype.
The supporting cast elevates the material considerably. Nathan Phillips delivers a volatile turn as gangster Morgan, balancing menace with unpredictability.
