texted my soccer fan neighbour "I saw the flag on your balcony, vive la Révolution !!" 🤭
artfight attack on @revolutionarywig
like many small towns and villages we celebrate Bastille day on 14 July's eve, so it was yesterday
our municipal council has a fan of the Revolution, but the artistic team is of the opinion that nothing goes better with fireworks than epic movie music
so it goes like "we stormed the Bastille, we broke our chains and got rid of tyranny. Vive la République, vive la France ! Alexa, play Strength of a thousand men by Two Steps from Hell.
le 14 juillet
Today, 9 Messidor, is the day of the absinthe, so here's the plant itself (seen this spring in the salines royales d'Arc-et-Senans) and the famous poster for the Absinthe Bourgeois in Pontarlier
this heatwave guys...... and the government is doing nothing besides telling us to drink water we are so cooked
Today, 5 Messidor, is the day of the mulet (the mule) and I know it's the animal but I feel we should also celebrate Camille Desmoulins' 80s mullet haircut in La Révolution Française (1989)
So, we're all familiar with this bust of Saint-Just, right?
The one David d'Angers based on the portrait Élisabeth kept? The one that made her weep and therefore gets a special seal of approval?
Well @robespapier went to see it in person and made a shocking discovery.
Prepare to get your world turned upside down:
His hair is long in the back and kept in a plait.
You see a bit of it on the medallion though I never noticed:
I'm gonna go rethink everything now.
On the bright side this means the red ribbon style is now canon (though he'd probably use a blue one):
The world of possibilities this just opened.
Hard to believe it's been three years @robespapier and I noticed this detail and this post along with her post changed Saint-Just's previously established hairstyle representation across the fandom 😭 it's so wild 😭😭😭
No really go back and look at art of him from before 2023, the plait was super rare if ever depicted??
Today is the day of the tilleul, so here's my town's liberty tree, planted in 1989 for the bicentennary of the Revolution, that also happens to be a tileul; a popular choice for liberty trees, like le tilleul de Pérouges, which is from 1792 !!
Only posting close up pictures, I don't want my town to be recognisable for privacy reasons.
paris day one!!
the pantheon!!
(probably) saint-just
marat and carnot (?)
danton and robespierre :)
carnot’s tomb
danton themed EVERYTHING, plus his house
robespierre ft. a 0.5 and actually accurate information???
lucile and a TERRIFYING fouquier bust. why does he look Like That
and finally they were playing lrf in the conciergerie lmao
tomorrow i’m going to the louvre (help) and hopefully i’m gonna see the pavillon de flore, and the duplay house!!
I am sure there is some post on tumblr describing the statue of Convention nationale and concluding that it is not a portrait of Saint-Just, but of Hoche or Jourdan? I don't remember anymore. I can't find the post. Anyone help?
he’s saint-just in my heart 😔
@cheeri1yfrancis I found this post: https://www.tumblr.com/major-knighton/701657246573133824/does-anyone-know-who-got-included-in-this?source=share
It seems that information might be wrong, so maybe it is SJ in the end. 😉 Sorry for the confusion.
no worries!! it’s really interesting either way :) and hoche and sj look so similar, my brother saw the hoche statue behind this one and was like ‘omg it’s saint-just’ 😭
We've determined based on iconography that it is Saint-Just:

Here’s Saint-Just (and bonus Maxilmilian) from “Un peuple et son Roi”
Maxime looks so cute with his impeccable wig and posture here!!
My very first tiger drawing and my latest
Your skill level is unquestionable but listen.
I love him.
me also. as well.
I made my first lino cut :D after a frame of "La mort de Robespierre" (by the most talented @revolutionarywig )
The prints turned out blotchy and a bit faint because i used oil paint :')
Thinking about the nature of revolutions
I’ve been too uninspired and busy with work to draw
Have a SJ scribble
printed Saint-Just in an armchair and put him in a vintage French photoframe! displayed on my altar;)
also made a T shirt with my art on it (this has an angel wing on a sleeve so that my arm turn into one🪽) what do you think?
