its kinda unrelated, but your pondering on the presence of tfa bots possible parents reminded me of a similar wall a ran into while trying to figure out a similair situation.

theres this one line in one of the episodes with the elite gaurd on earth, where sentinel complains about having to watch optimus, which he calls "playing nursemaid". which through me for a loop kinda, becasue the definition of "nursemaid" im familar with is "woman who nurses a baby for work"??? which would...imply some things about them. at first i considered if it could mean just a lower ranking nurse in this sitaution, (like a nurse who mostly cleans up like a maid) but the context is the same as if you would say "babysitter". i know its a throwaway line, and if they have some baby equivenlent on cybertron its probably just the term for who ever takes care of them but theres now a chance, however slim, thats these robots can lactate. and that scares and confuses me more than it should...

idk why every single writer who tries to make megatron more than a villain feels the need to align him with op in some way, shape, or form before the war. it would be one thing if *some* stories did it and others didn't, but it's all of them. every single one. even earthspark. even though it's completely irrelevant and unnecessary to the rest of that story. franchise jumped straight from “enemies forever” to “friends/political allies to enemies to friends/strained allies” without the simplest “enemies to friends” step first. is it hard to believe that a guy who sucks hard would change for the better or realign his interests? if anything, giving him a “good” past before he went “bad” lessens the drama of the later change. it enables you to hold “millions of years of warmongering & cruelty” in your brain and put it aside, instead of it staying as a permanent abyss around which megatron, everyone affected by megatron, and the audience have to navigate. DO YOU BELIEVE IN FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE, YES OR NO? afaik, earthspark is the only one that pulls this off… if you ignore the one tacked-on TFP lore “buddies before the war” line.
