During the Golden Age, some bots developed a mutation that allowed them to have two alt modes; lumps that would grow over the bots' protoform and eventually take the form of new kibble.
The first recorded case was Skyklik, who emerged as a jet but had grown the kibble necessary to transform into a helicopter. To say that his case caused a commotion would be an understament. Once word got out, his face started to appear in every single media outlet: everyone was amazed by his existence, everyone wanted to see him transform. It was around that time that the term "triple changer" was coined, used to describe Skyklik and, eventually, all the others that would come after him.
Triple changers have been cool when it was only Skyklik, but when other cases started to appear panic surged. Some believed that the mutation was contagious, or a punishment from Primus– however, the most common belief was that triple changers were, simply, defective. Said belief was reinforced by the fact that, unlike Skyklik, most of those who had the mutation didn't have two functional alt modes; sometimes the kibble they would grow wasn't enough to make another alt mode, sometimes said kibble would block the access to their first alt mode. Those who could affort it paid to have the kibble removed, but most of them resigned themselves to live with it.
It didn't help that scientists couldn't explain the mutation. There seemed to be no precedents for it, no common denominator, just a random development. However, over time, the mutation became less frequent and, with the public taking their attention off triple changers, trying to find their origin became less of a priority.
Eventually, triple changers started to emerge that way, with two alt modes, and the public opinion about them started to vary as more bots began to appreciate their "uniqueness".

I am really not a fan of sparklings, though I did have attempts at exploring such storylines, but the last one was dropped quickly (as a lit match in upside down position) because That aforementioned dude WOULD yeet it ASAP and forcing a reason—in a way like how it was mentioned in the post/discussion—is actually dumb here, even if I'm speaking as sb to whom the IRL topic is kinda uncomfortable. He fr wouldn't shrimply have a reason; dude's priority is slaughter; he can't just do stuff like that out of sudden; it'd be like "Cartman being nice about pronouns" 🥀 (and poor dude already suffers from that due to the fandom in other situations lol)
OKAY SO
First of all, I know that a lot of people are not fans of sparklings or mechpreg, which it's why I try to tag my content as best as I can so it can be filtered. Considering how prevalent such concepts are in fandom, I imagine it must be hell for people who get really uncomfortable by it.
That being said, I like to explore those concepts for various reasons, so I have to imagine ways to make them work– which it's hard, since my first thought always tend to be "they would get an abortion". The image that you mentioned it's pretty accurate 😭

So, I have talked about how I like to think about the Quintessons as the Qu from All tomorrows. So basically they came to Cybertron, took the living forms there and modify them to have all kind of different alt modes (originally they could only turn into spheres) and use them as they pleased. Then the first autobots kicked them out of the planet and the Golden Age came, but that didn't meant they were truly free. A pair of quintensson scientists (who I have decided are named Centyr and Fica until I come up with something better) remained in the orbit, watching cybertronians from afar. The Quintessons were not happy about losing their greatest invention so far, so Centyr and Fica studied them in order to found out a way to create a better version of them, ones who wouldn't care about things like autonomy and such (they could also use said information to destroy Transformers as a whole but money was more important at the moment)
And this is where Blitzwing comes in. I wanted to talk about triple changers before answering this ask, because being a triple changer is what put the quintessons' attention on Blitzwing.
While Skyklik was the first recorded case, Blitzwing was the first transformers to ever present the mutation.
The Quintessons abducted him as soon as they noticed it to study him. They had abduct bots before, nobodies that wouldn't be search for, and luckily for them Blitzwing happened to fit that description. Unlike the others, though, Blitzwing was special, so they were more careful when experimenting with him, trying not to kill him in the process.
This did not meant Blitzwing went unharmed during it, one can imagine that being treated like a lab rat is not the greatest of experiences. And this went on for years, since triple changers were also inexplicable to the quintessons. Eventually, they decided to give up and just clone Blitzwing. They reverse engineered a body and took a chunk out of Blitzwing's spark, which I'm saying very nonchalantly but it was hell for Blitzwing he almost died probably the worst thing they did to him in all those years they had him trapped there rip 🕊️
Either way, that's how Overcharge was born. He was named that because he needed a lot of energy to function– in fact, even simple acts like moving his optics took half of his energy, which meant that he had to stay connected to a battery at all times.
Needless to say, he was a failure, but we all start somewhere.
Blitzwing hated him, of course. Again, his creation hurt. Still, being trapped with weird aliens by who knows how long does things to your mind, making you find confort in the weirdest of places, and Overcharge wasn't a transformer but he looked like one and Blitzwing hasn't seen another transformer in so long–
He grew kind of fond of him. Not that he would ever admit it out loud. Still, when managed to escape he took Overcharge with him.
The Quintessons didn't care much about it at this point, since they had the information they need to make better Overcharges and they were sure no one would believe Blitzwing when he told other about them (they were right), so Blitzwing and Overcharge got to live a quiet and peaceful life... Until Overcharge died and the grief + everything else combined made Blitzwing lowkey lose it. As a kind of defense mechanism, his processor erased the first years of his life, so he doesn't remember the Quintessons or Overcharge anymore.
Still, when Cannon happens, subconsciously feels it's a chance of getting Overcharge back. Blitzwing can't really reason with the need to keep the stupid thing, and even when she is born he doesn't understand why he cares so much about her, but it all goes back to Overcharge and how traumatic the situation was made Blitzwing care about him even if he was, by all means, a "faulty" robot.
So yeah, that's the main reason Cannon wasn't yeeted: trauma

I have despised the "Apology tour" since Hasbro announced it and every single thing they do during it just makes me hate it more.
It's just them telling the "Optimus dead childhood ruined" joke over and over again, and it really pisses me off. It's the anniversary of the 86 movie, you would think that they would do– idk, things that actually focus in the movie? Because with the way they market it you would think that the movie ended when Optimus died. We didn't have the movie crew trying to save Cybertron, or the scenes with the Quintessons, or the visit to Junkion, or the Rodimus vs. Galvatron battle, no– just the battle of the first 30 minutes and Optimus dying.
Like bro, BUMBLEBEE IS BARELY IN THE MOVIE, WHY IS HE IN THE MOVIE MERCH???
Actually, you could say the same about Optimus. He is barely in the movie. He dies and that's it, the others went on. The movie is not the best thing ever but it's fun, the cast is great and I believe they could have done more things with it. Dealing with Optimus' ghost is a really interesting concept, and it could have been great to see it play out if they had ignored the backlash that came with it. But they didn't, focusing in the backlash have been the only thing they done in this 40 years, so now we get repetive stories and repetive jokes.
