Best 'How-to-make-a-TV-report' ever.
My wife and I are a huge fan of Grand Designs. We have learned that building your own house isn't impossible and we dream of the day we will live in a house we designed ourselves. This episode proves you don't even have to own a house, to design it. Something that seems quite impossible in Australia...
Amsterdam, Holland. A very cool place indeed...
Why did I move to Melbourne again?
‘Just arrived’ is about me and my family. We moved to Australia in September 2012. We try to adapt to Australia and the Australian lifestyle, but it’s not always easy. In every episode I adress something that is different. I also explain what we ‘Dutchies’ are like.
Episode eight is about (public) toilets. It is amazing how many public toilets Melbourne has. It is also amazing that nobody understands that this is not normal. If you can find a public toilet in Amsterdam, it is extremely filthy.

Episode seven is about coffee. Melbourne has a great coffee culture and I love it. I wonder if cafe owners ever heard of Senseo, the Dutch way of making coffee.

Episode six is about friendliness. Compared to the Dutch, Australians are so much friendlier. It was really shocking, I had to get used to it.

On March 21th 2013 the Australian government made formal apologies to those who were affected by the forced adoptions of the 50's till 70's. I produced and reported this story about Karen, a mother who had to give up her daughter when she was just 17. Her story is gripping and sad, and I'm very grateful and happy she wanted to share it. Editing was hard, I had to cut out so many aspects of her story. However, I'm happy with the result. So was my client.

Episode five is about cycling. Compared to the Netherlands, Melbourne is horrific to a Dutch cyclist. Helmets, cars, hills even the bike trails are terrible.

This third episode is about driving in Australia. I think Australians are terrible on the road and can't understand some rules. Taking the hook turn was an experience on it's own.
You can watch this videocolumn in the program Dutch TV on C31 (local tv in Melbourne) on Sunday 10pm.

Episode four is about things we put on our toast. In the Netherlands we like hagelslag but how would we like Vegemite? We all tried it for the first time. My two girls had high expectations but were not impressed.
After the recordings an Aussie told me I had probably spread it on too thick. So did I? Please let me know!

This second episode is about the heat. Our first summer here in Australia was one of the hottest ever. I recorded most of this episode on the hottest day of the year. It was about 42ª celcius. But I learned how to survive!

This first episode is about Christmas. We had friends over and not family, We were having a BBQ outside, instead of 'Gourmetten' inside. We had sun instead of snow... all together very strange. By the way...Does anyone know who in Holland invented 'Second Christmas day'?

I regard this interview as one of my most successful.
In november 2004, I was asked by my employer Shownieuws to have a junket interview with Tom Hanks. I was flown to London, stayed in 5-star hotel and could talk to Hanks about his movie "the Polar Express" for only five minutes. The film distributer payed for this, and in return expects you'll broadcast the interview and talk about the movie positively.
I took a chance and left the boring movie-talk and introduce Tom to Sinterklaas. He is a typical Dutch figure more or less simmular to Santa Claus. I bought the presents and wrote the rhyme/poem myself.
Luckily Hanks responded great. I could use most of the 4 minutes I had with him without a single cut. My employer was very happy with the result. However the distributor wasn't. They thought I didn't give the movie enough attention, and complained with my seniors. I was never asked for a junket interview again.
Adressed the press conference of Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician with very strong anti Islamic beliefs, who was visiting Melbourne in February. I was the only journalists at the scene that actually returned home with news as I discovered Wilders could not find a place to speech in Perth. The news soon was picked up by other news websites in the Netherlands and Australia.
I also made to the The Australian newspaper. I was quoted by journalist Chip Legrand in his opinion piece on Wilders' visit to Australia.
Later on wrote an article for the Australian magazine Holland Focus. You can read it here
I love this movie. When I saw Magnolia in cinema for the first time, I was simply blown away by it. This introduction is brilliant.
C31's Dutch TV (Dutchtvonline) interviewed me in October 2012, 6 weeks after my arrival in Austrlalia.
Things have changed. My wife has a job, we moved house and I've been to a hairdresser...
After the interview I met with Dutch Tv founder Carole Overmaat again for a coffee. Now I'm a video columnist in this show. Watch it on C31 (local TV in Melbourne) on Sunday 10pm
