Would love to be back here once again, to spend most of my weekends and summer evenings in the water enjoying the beautiful surroundings
Fontana delle 99 cannelle (99 Pipes Fountain), L'Aquila, Abruzzo, Italy
The origins of this spectacular fountain date back to the 13th century AC, and completed in 15th c. The 99 pipes would represent 99 castles, that contributed to the foundation of L’Aquila (now the biggest city of the area).
The pouring pipes are actually 93; the 6 remaining not-working ones would represent the wounds of Jesus Christ, according to the Christian religion; all the decorating heads are different from each other.
It was used for the water supply of the population and for washing laundry.
