I think one of my favourite things so far about TGCF is how whenever Xie Lian cooks, it’s terrible. And he clearly knows it’s bad, but he just chooses to look the other way as everyone but Hua Cheng is nearly dying from his cooking 😅

Like I’ve noticed that each time someone eats his cooking, he’s conveniently not watching, it’s hilarious.

something something xie lian using humor to cope is actually self soothing behavior because he doesn't know how to process his grief without feeling like he's burdening others, something something mxtx purposely writing his narration of the story in the book as a downplay of the actual horrors of xianle until it's fully revealed because said self soothing has made him learn to not take things too seriously to avoid having to think about the past too hard
