The Beatles drummer paid £5,570 for the Facel Vegal Facel II, which he bought at the height of the band's unprecedented musical career. Now, the glamorous car is expected to sell for more than 60 times its initial price tag at auction. Launched in 1961, the Facel II was priced in Rolls-Royce territory. It was bought by the rich and famous seeking something exclusive and distinctive, including celebrities Tony Curtis, Danny Kaye, Joan Fontaine and Ava Gardner, as well as great motor racing figures such as Sir Stirling Moss.
