He sighed, hands now gripping at his hair. “Okay… okay, that makes sense. But… If I say ‘no, I’d rather wait a bit first,’ he’ll take it to mean I don’t love him. He’d feel even worse if I just flat out refused. So honestly, I don’t have a fucking choice if I don’t wanna make him feel like he doesn’t matter to me!”

And there were the tears, finally. “I… I really do love him, but… it’s shit like this that sometimes makes me wish I didn’t. A-And I feel so fucking horrible for thinking shit like that, a-a-and…” He was full-out sobbing now, holding himself tightly, trying to get it under control.

“I-I hate this… Everything I s-say sets him off, a-a-and… Why do I h-have to love him?!”

Eyes widening he quickly hugged his friend, holding him tight and rubbing his back lovingly. “Shh...shhh, I´m here, I´m here. And...maybe...do you think it might help if you speak to him with someone else around? Just...I don´t know, so you´re not as nervous?”

Fuck. The controller was put down, and Saturn stared at the TV for a few moments. “I… I don’t really know. I was playing with Archer’s cats, and then he said he had something for me in the bedroom. I came upstairs, he had something behind his back, and then suddenly he was on one knee and asking if I’d like to be engaged. No marriage, just engaged, but… fuck…”

He buried his head in his hands again, sighing. “I said I needed to think about it, and he got hurt. He tried not to show it, but I saw it. And… then I realized he’d put me on the spot, and I started getting angry. I hid it, though.”

“Hm...well, to be fair, without any exchange beforehand it was putting you on the spot, that´s true. At the same time...I believe I know what Archer wished to express. He loves you, and wishes to remain by your side forever, and the ring would be a promise. Yet, an engagement can be broken up with much less trouble than a marriage would. You two live far apart and have dangerous lives, he wants to feel a strong connection with you by promising you forever. But he still wants to give you the chance to leave, should you ever desire to do so...”

Oh dear...hopefully he wasn´t assuming anything wrong here. He simply tried to connect the dots, from what he knew about the interim, which...granted was not horribly much.

The smile grew wider, and he was feeling a lot better already. “Still… thank you.”

An hour later (and at least three instances of Saturn kicking ass on Rainbow Road), Saturn was a lot more relaxed. He didn’t really want to bring up the situation, although he knew it would have to come up eventually.

The younger wouldn´t deny that it felt good to in a way be back to a point where thing had been easier. When he and Saturn had just been friends with benefits, when no emotions had been in play. For this hour...he managed to pretend that things were easier.

But he knew they were far from it. “...So...how exactly did that whole mess happen?”

That brought a smile and a chuckle out of him, at least. “That and video games…?” He knew Archie had a Wii U in here with Mario Kart- something not too challenging, but enough to keep him occupied. 

“And… thank you.” He was already starting to calm down- though he knew he’d just get angry again if he started thinking about the situation more.

“...That´s what friends are for, are they not? Sticking together through the highs and lows of life?”

He quickly set up the console and handed Saturn one of the controllers, kissing the commanders forehead. “I got your back. Always.”

A deep and heavy sigh, and he leaned into the touch. “No, that’s perfectly reasonable… Although there’s two options: me getting my anger out so there isn’t any left or the distraction like you said.” And now he picked his head up, leaning his entire body against Archie’s. He was so, so tired…

“I think I’d like to try the distraction first… I don’t think letting it out would be beneficial to any of us.”

“That´s very true...Anything you´d like to do? I mean apart from filling ourselves with sweets of course.”

And he smiled, hoping his optimism would be able to help his friend. Sure, a small, nasty part of him was happy the commander hadn´t said yes...but Archie knew better than to listen. Saturn had feelings for someone else, and he would not be selfish about this.

Thankfully, they were uninjured, although his entire body was tense. “Pissed. Put on the spot. Like no matter what I say next, it’ll hurt Archer. Which makes me even more pissed.” Once Archie was done, he pulled his hands away, sitting down and putting his head in his hands.

“Just… what the fuck?! What made him think it was alright to force me into a yes or no situation when we haven’t even mentioned marriage?! Oh sorry, ‘getting engaged without getting married.’ I don’t know if that’s a smaller sort of thing or not.” He was so tired already, and he didn’t know what to do. Half of him wanted to refuse, but he thankfully recognized that as being fueled by spite.

“I’m so pissed I don’t even wanna make a decision…”

Archie just hugged his friend, rubbing the older mans back with a sigh. As long as Saturn was this angry, there was no way the commander would be able to weight all the options on the matter. So maybe...

“Ok, I know this sounds like I try to circumvent the issue at hand but...why don´t we do something to distract you for a while? Movies, games, whatever, until you´re reasonably calm. Chances are, you´ll be able to think about the whole thing more clearly once the shock and anger settles.

And with that, he put away his phone, calling out Kadabra to teleport over. He didn’t even bother to teleport outside the base like he usually did, instead instructing the psychic type to appear right outside of Archie’s room. He knocked once, twice, taking great care not to knock too hard.

It was a bit difficult.

The grunt immediately opened the door, letting his friend in and leading him over the the small desk, where some food was already waiting for them. With a sigh, he took Saturns hands, checking them for injuries.

“...Well...how are you feeling?”

Archies eyes widened in surprise for a moment, his mind having to digest the information he just got.

The elite stuck his tongue out at that. “Ewwwww, gross! I knew you had weird tastes, but this?” All teasing, all said in light tones.

Of course, Will ordered his with rainbow sprinkles, sitting down in the store once he’d gotten his ice cream, digging into it like a predator consuming its prey.

Archie sat with the Elite, smirking as he leaned forward to steal a kiss, tasting the sweet ice-cream.

“Well, my weird tastes were rather positive for you weren´t they? After all, they made me follow the masked guy I didn´t know just for complimenting my ass at the bar.”

“Call him a slave driver for me while you’re at it!” He was smiling brightly now, glad he’d made his friend laugh. 

Ohhhhh, rocky road… but with caramel in it. That sounded wonderful… “What’re you getting?”

“I want the blue and pink bubblegum one, that stuff is good.”

He had been here for a while, trying out the flavours until he began alternating between bubblegum and tropical. both on their own were amazing, they just shouldn´t be mixed together.

A sigh, and Will was sad again- though not as much as before. “True… I should go yell at your boss or something, make them give you more vacation.” Once inside, he went immediately to the display, looking at every flavor like an excited kid.

That actually made him laugh, imagining Will yelling at Giovanni of all people. Not that he could tell the younger. 

“He´d boot you out of his office the moment you come in Will. But...no matter. I´ll see about asking for more time of after a bit.”

“Aw c’mon, not like either of us are gonna die or anything. I’m just visiting Alola for a month!” The elite was nearly skipping happily as they approached the store.

“Well, sure, but we don´t see each other very often, that´s what I mean. Especially once I get back to work...”

His forced holiday had been going for a while, and while he was thankful for the time off, it allowed him too much time to think about what he was going back to.

“I know…” It’s a small smile, a sad smile. “I forgot, I’m sorry. C’mon, let’s get our ice cream like we were gonna!” It’s an attempt at a distraction, but hey, he’s trying.

He gently takes Wills hand, squeezing it to show it was alright, stepping closer to his friend, even though his body protested. 

“Yes, let´s. We should enjoy what little time we have together, right?”

Just…bite his lip and looks away, scared.

“Oh… uh, sorry…” He forgot Archie had a thing about death. “I won’t talk about it again.”

“Ah...it´s alright. Sorry, I´m really too squeamish.” He smiles, laughing a bit to take away the bad vibes.

The rocking of Archie’s gait nearly lulled him back to sleep. For the first time in ages, he finally felt safe. His friend wouldn’t let anything happen to him, he knew that for a fact.

Saturn nearly purred at the kiss, although he couldn’t really understand what was being said- except when Archie mentioned Archer. 

“Is A-Archer alright?” He looked up again, worry on his face.

“Don´t worry, he´s doing rather well, he just worried a lot. But I think it helped him to promise I´ll get you. He knows I wouldn´t hurt you or allow anyone else to hurt you.”

Ariana was actually making sure that Archer would not neglect himself out of worry, while the other Executives helped with saving Saturn. As such...Archie was convinced that the older man would be fine.
