Yesterday was #wickingbed time! In our little sunroom at #GeoEchoFarm we cut some old apple crates in half and nailed on the back of each some pallet wood. Nestled them in by the window and lined them with the old plastic from the greenhouse poly tunnel. We placed slotted pipe in the bottom and plumbed it up to the top like you can see in the pic. Half-filled it with rock, laying black permeable weed-cloth over that and a short bit of hose on top of that through the box as an overflow. Then the fun part: soil-building time! We layered (from bottom up): compost, straw, lucerne, zoo-poo, compost, comfrey, sugarcane mulch, rock dust, biochar, compost, sugar cane mulch. Finished up planting kale, spring onions, Passionfruit, blueberry, chives, chard, lettuces. Ooh yeah! #permaculture @thepermapixie #earthandwood Soil-building ideas much inspired by #nodiggarden method from @elemental_permaculture
