where he expects some rebuke, instead cliff is offered a dose of his own medicine. amusement lights his eyes as he appreciates the clever turn of phrase. a wide grin follows to claim his features, ❝ well isn’t that just hiss-terical. ❞ there’s a conspiratorial undercurrent to the tone of his voice, as if they’re trading important state secrets and not cat puns. ❝ i’m not sure what we should do, but i know we don’t want to end up with a cat–astrophe on our hands. ❞

❛ you can’t make homes out of human beings. someone should have told you that. ❜
it’s a rude thing to say by cliff’s estimation, but maybe not everyone would see it that way. he was a high flyer sure, but when it came to the things that mattered he was a bit of a stick in the mud. planted and unmoving. that went for places and people. home had never been a house for him, and the closest he’d come to home outside of a plane were the people that he cared about and the people who cared about him. ❝ maybe it’s that way for some folks @qknows, but not for me. ❞
❛ things change, friends leave. life doesn’t stop for anybody. ❜
it was a bleak sentiment, the kind of heavy that twisted tension in your shoulders and put a dip in your brow. cliff was quiet, though his lips parted as if to say there was a thought in progress and it was sure to come tumbling out any second. ❝ well, you’re right about that, ❞ a sigh flares his nostrils with the punctuation of a pause. ❝ i guess that’s why we’ve gotta take every opportunity to be there for our friends while we have them. ❞ it never did any good to hold something against someone they hadn’t done yet. ❝ — and hey, look on the bright side @druisg. some change is for the better. ❞

cliff’s face finds itself twisted between a flinch and a grimace as he looks at @blazde’s stern set features. it was hard to imagine somewhere under the mask of unwavering intensity there was potential amusement. the comment leads him to believe that amusement is currently at his expense. ❝ — yeah, thanks for that, ❞ sardonic tone is used lightly, but there’s no mistaking it. ❝ that’s going to bruise, ❞ the idle comment is tossed out with a nod and a frown. ❝ you know, it doesn’t cost anything to be nice. ❞

it’s not a logic puzzle or anything difficult like that, but the statement conjures a picture within his mind that gives cliff some pause. he blinks as his head cants to the side and a grin finds his mouth. ❝ funny thing that, sounds like it might get a little... hairy. ❞ he reaches out and nearly grasps the pun, but it falls short as his eyebrows raise for emphasis. ❝ — sorry about that @reignthem. ❞ he shakes his head and considers a vow of silence. too bad it would last all of five minutes.

❝ well, that was very thoughtful of you. ❞ confusion mingles with curiosity on cliff’s face as he studies the cup. ❝ — from the sound of it @humanzippo, i’m thinking this wasn’t your first of the night... ❞ a beat passes as his mouth quirks up in a mirthful smile. ❝ not that i’m judging, just an observation. ❞ it had been a while since he’d let loose, a bit consumed with trying to scrape together the money to get his plane repaired. ❝ maybe we need to order another round? ❞
