I have a DnD group with this couple, and we were hanging in the basement waiting for the DM to get there. So when he texts me 'I'm almost there' I started headed up the stairs, and noticed they didn't follow. I waited halfway up the stairs to hear the girlfriend say "Wait, kisses!" And after a minute the two started coming up and she was so giggly and happy she got her kisses. They are literally the cutest thing <3

When to Introduce a Mimic Into Your Campaign

Mimics are a classic D&D monster that most players are already aware of. There may not be much you can do to prevent metagaming, but you can introduce the creature at the right time and keep well-read players on their toes. After all, who wants to go through a game of D&D by poking every single treasure chest they see with a 10 ft. pole? (Pro tip: Mimics can look like any inanimate object… the treasure chest trope is old, but you can still lure your PCs in by disguising them as other objects they may want to pick up).

Are your players being greedy in dungeons? Do they have more loot than they know what to do with? And have they been caught off guard in your game yet? Bring a Mimic into the game when your players are in a dungeon that doesn’t have many tricks, and when they’re taking things for granted. You need your players to feel confident for them to get close enough for a grapple. 

How to Introduce a Mimic Into Your Campaign

Mimics can look like just about anything, but that doesn’t mean they know how to blend into their environment perfectly. A chair in the middle of an empty room… that’s odd. A treasure chest… facing the corner wall of the dungeon? A gorgeous dress laying amidst some bones in a tomb, how strange. Give some descriptive clues that suggest there’s something fishy going on… but hold off on any other info. After all, they are basically undetectable until they decide to strike.
