[HERE WE GO AGAIN.]
âŚexcuse me? a young girl walks into the jewelry store. Um- youâreâŚhm. Sorry- I donât know your name yet, but I was sent by E-..A friend. To say hi.
Evangeline lifted her head from a counter and pulled up her sleeves when you entered, grease and oil staining her hands... you noticed that one of her arms wasn't made of flesh at all, but a mechanical structure with good intricacies and ceramic plating.
Oh, hello there! Sorry, I was just busy with something, you'll have to excuse me!
She made her way over to you while stretching out her wings and placing her hand out for you to shake it.
My name is evangeline, and I'm the owner of this fine jewellery store. Hiw may I help you today, miss.. ?
Evangeline. Thatâs a beautiful name! Stormy takes her hand to shake it. Iâm Stormy. I was sent by a friend of mine to come here cause I was annoying him. But I think weâre friends. Or we will be eventually. Heâs justâŚTough, haha.
she smiled kindly when you complimented her and placed her hands over one another, holding her arms in front of her. She seemed so polite, in stark contrast to her brother.
Stormy. You have quite the lovely name also.
Evanangeline thought for a moment. Something about this friend you described seemed so familiar, she just couldn't put her finger on it.
Do I...know this friend of yours, by chance?
Oh! UhmâŚ
She couldnât just say Eliza was alive and she was talking to him a second ago!
âŚN-No, I donât think so. Heâs pretty sour. AndâŚHe didnât really want anything to do with me. So I donât think you two would get along. HahahahahaâŚ.
oh. That's alright! Might I ask how he knew me?
Evangeline was getting ever more suspicious of this "friend" now. It wasn't ezra, was it? Or was it courier? No,no... she hadn't spoken to him in months, he'd surely forgotten about her entirely by now.
âŚHeâŚProbably just knew you from your shop. She was getting closer and closer to realizing that Stormy was talking about ElizaâŚAnd Stormy couldnât have that.
really?? Because business has been pretty slow here recently, not to intrude or anything! I'm merely curious.
she wasn't talking about stinkeri- or dee or whatever he was calling himself nowadays, was she?
Could you describe what he looked like, by any chance? He just sounds so familiar.
UmâŚ
Damnit, sheâd find out soon enough.
âŚHeâs, uh. Blue? I guess?
wh- blue??? What do you mean, dear??
she must be talking about ezra, right? I mean who else does she know that's blu-
Oh god. It's not him is it?? He's supposed to be DEAD. MONTHS AGO.
You could see the worry in her face when realisation kicked in.
What do you mean by "blue"?

Evangeline sat gently by the stream she once knew so well and sighed, her face washed over with a pensive look. Eliza was gone. She could feel it. He never was really any use to her anyways. Yes, they loved eachother, but was it just because that's what siblings are "supposed" to do? Enjoy eachothers company? Did they enjoy eachothers company, or did they just say they did?
...
She sat for quite a while, lost in her own spiralling and realisations. ...why was she like this? Why was she so cruel? What was the point? Why did she feel as if she ALWAYS had to put on some sort of performance for someone, and never get to be her true self? She still sat. As if waiting for something that will never arrive.
...she spots you. Out of the corner of her eye. She gets up slowly, and strolls over towards you, shaking off her wings after being stationary for so long.
...Moot? Are you alright dear?
It glares. It had no reason to be nice to her. (why was it mad at her, again?)
Whaddyou think? Nothingâs ever alright! Why does that MATTER anyways.
Well everything was ârightâ, the way it was supposed to be. (not really, it missed stinkeri.) But nothing was okay. It was tired of being sad though. It wanted to be mad. And Evageline was an easy target.
she spoke slowly, confused as to why you were so mad at her.
Well, I just wasn't expecting to find you here. I just wanted to know how you were, that's all.
..
You know, I've found myself to be a lot more empathetic since Eliza died. I didn't want to say it out of politeness but he was quite the burden. I'm not quite sure why he was murdered but I know that it wasn't stink- it wasn't planned. Not that it matters anyway. In a way I'm glad he's gone.
Im not surprised about his death though. He did aggravate quite a lot ofpeople, someone was bound to lose their temper soon enough.
..
Sorry. I shouldn't be dumping all of this on you. You don't deserve that.
She quietly looked into the ever so slightly blue tinted river, watching it ripple and smooth out any bumps left underneath.
a pit in its stomach. it hated him. it hated her.
i donât care about your empathyyy or whatever. i donât care what you feel and what you donât. i care aboht what you did.
it remembered more clearly. sheâd hurt stinkeri, hadnât she?
he was all it had left to latch onto. it was not going to lose him like it lost everyone else. it didnât care about dee. it didnât. it needed stinkeri and itâd defend him till it died. (it would never see him the same again.)
i didnât deserve anything that happened to me. it doesnât matter if you say that after you do it.
it ignored any commentary about eliza. it didnât want to hear about him more after his weird boss.
âŚsomething seemed almostâŚoff about moot. this moot was angrier, but more collected. its thoughts were set straight and it was speaking with a purpose. it wasnât blubbering or crying or bursting into tears on the spot. it was upset but not exactly like a little kid.
it didnât remind you of observer either. it didnât seem to notice a difference, not even in the way it held itself.
she was even more confused now, but still felt bad for poor moot for reasons even she couldn't explain. She noticed the the shift in its tone and was glad it wasn't unreasonably angry at her now. She almost let out a soft smile.
...I fully agree with you, moot. The only time anyone deserves to be punished is if they've done something equally wrong to you.
Listen, I know I can be cruel at times, but nobody deserves harm without reason. No one. I do what I am made to do. I am no monster.
Evangeline winced, memories of being tarred and feathered, being shot in the knees, having her lemurs broken time and time again flooded her mind. What had she done to deserve that? She didn't deserve that. She collected her thoughts again and quietly took off her gloves and put them in her bag, her metal fingers sparkling ever so slightly in the sunlight.
he didnât deserve to be hurt.
it muttered. it hated her so badly, why didnât she understand? she was evil she was bad. it didnât care anymore than that. it didnât.
no one deserves to be hurt at all. thereâsâitâs not fair to say that they could have a reason, because if that was what you thought thenâŚthen i deserve everything that happened to me.
and you wouldnât say that to me.
moot thought about all its violent outbursts. about the people that would never breathe again.
thereâs nothing ever fair about punishment, especially not here. why donât you realize that? i thought someone like you would realize that.
Punishment isn't fair. I never said it was, but sometimes it's deserved. Not all the time. Sometimes.
Here, take this as an example; somebody hurts you. You've never met thus person and they hurt you with no warning and completely unwarranted. They hurt you badly. They won't stop when you ask them to. There's nothing you can do to stop them except hurt them back. Would you hurt them to make them stop? Or would you just let them hurt you? Does that person deserve to be hurt in order to stop the from hurting others?
Sorry- that's not a great example. There's a lot of my mind at the moment, I apologise if I'm not making sense.
..
She took a deep breath.
I wouldn't say you deserved punishment because you haven't done anything wrong as far as I know. If you have, I have no proof. So there's no reason for me or anyone else to cause you harm. And to be honest, it takes a lot for someone to warrant me causing them harm. A lot. Anytime I have was only because I was desperate or I was made to. Or- well there was- you know what, nevermind. You have enough to deal with aside from listening to my problems.
..
Youre a good kid moot. I don't see why anyone would want or need to harm you. You wouldn't deserve it. But that's all just assumptions, I suppose.
She picked up a stone from the ground and skipped it across the water, letting out a sigh of dissapointment after it only skipped 2 or 3 times.
thats not a fair example peopleâpeople donât do that.
moot had never been hurt by someone it didnât know before.
moot feltâŚbad. did it deserve it? it was the example. it was the example of someone who hurt someone who did nothing. and they did not fight back.
what if i killed someone..a umâŚa long time ago.
why was it asking her? it didnât matter anymore. it was such a meaningless moment in the grand scheme of things.
and theyâthey didnât deserve it. they just wantedâŚi donât know. what if i didnât have a reason. what if i was justâŚmad..? maybe. i donât know. but what if i killed them because i wanted to and i didnât know what else to do with my hands. is..
its face contorted uncomfortably as it stared at its hands.
does that mean i deserved everything before? everything after? âŚ.that i deserve toâŚto never be able to sleep? to never die?
it got angry when she called it a good kid. it wasnât a good kid. these things donât happen to good kids. stinkeri wouldnât have gone away probably forever if it justâŚa good kid. it was a liar.
it was a
disgusting,
unforgiveable,
PARASTICAL,
LIAR.
im not a good kid. you know that. i- we know that. i know you do, so does everyone else, even he-
it interrupted itself with an upset sigh.
if i was a good kid i wouldnât be here.
She turned to you and put out her hands, trying to make eye contact with you to prevent you from getting any more upset.
Moot- moot, look at me. You're not a bad kid. You're a good person, I know. Your hypothetical- it- it doesn't count because I know you're a good person and what you did was certainly justified. No. one. No one, deserves to hurt you. You don't deserve to hurt. It- my hypothetical was silly anyways- just-just-
She sighed, trying to collect herself.
Youre a good person, moot. I don't care what anyone else says or if you think any different, I know bad people. They... they're different. They hurt for- for fun. Without any reason. You're not like that, I know you're not! You're not a bad person moot. Not to me at least.
Her eyes were strangely kind. Why did she care about this child so much? Did it remind her of her own, all those years ago? She was certainly a lot kinder to moot than she ever was to moriah. Maybe she was trying to redeem herself, to prove that she can care about people, that she can be a good person too.
But she can't be a good person. Because she isn't one, and bad people don't change. She was a horrible person. But there wasn't anything she could do about it now. Just to move on. Bad people don't change.
Moot is a good person. From her perspective, at least.
Evangeline sat gently by the stream she once knew so well and sighed, her face washed over with a pensive look. Eliza was gone. She could feel it. He never was really any use to her anyways. A tall, blonde women knocks on your door and stands ominously, fidgeting with her gloves and clearly nervous.
[Um...Comedian? Are you there? Listen, I know we're not exactly on the best of terms but I thought you'd need an explanation for well... everything that's happened.]
She paused for a moment, trying to consolidate her belongings.
[...I brought cookies!]
She taps her heels off of the ground and stands up straight while waiting.
comedian didn't say a word as he walked over to the door, turning the doorknob and peaking through. they didn't exactly remember evangeline being this tall. he opened the door wider and scanned her face. hm. no matter what evangeline stood for, no matter how he'd been terrified.. an explanation would be pretty goddamn cool. .. he was pretty sure courier wasn't home, anyways. they'd be fine. aaallright. come in.
of course, he didn't let that stop him from throwing a mistrustful glance back at her as he let her inside.
Evangeline smiled and laughed nervously as she trotted through the door before placing the cookies on your table and crossing her hands in front of her.
She was wearing what looked to be some sort of military uniform, light pink, with her hair tied up tightly into a formal updo.
Her regular leather brown boots made her about 4 inches taller than usual, but she still seemed unusually tall beyond that, more than uou could remember.
She also had large, cumbersome wings now, which she hadn't had before.
[Thank you,so much. Genuinely. You wouldn't believe how appreciative I am of you giving me a chance to speak. ]
She sighed while looking down before looking back up to you again.
[So...where should I start? From where I punched stinkeri, or dee as he's now calling himself, when I burst through your window before or when I visited you while still part of that disgusting cult? I do believe my last visit was quite rushed, so please do forgive me if I didn't make sense back then.]
She paused, thinking.
[Come to think of it, do you know what's going on with st- dee? He's acting really strange. Has something happened?]
I NEEEEDDDD to interact with someone on this account NOWWWW AAGGGSGHHHH
<i would stand there in the dark>
<you are merely another ant in this death spiral, aren't you?>
[An interesting comparison.]
[Aren't we all in a sense?]
All evangeline remembered about stinkeri is that he was an asshole who insulted her brother a lot, that he made some sort of deal with him, and that he was some sort of deity (and also that she brandished him while they were still pain-bonded but still)
In any sense, she still knew that he had to forgive her in order for her sentence to be cut down, and she knew that stinkeri was going to be the hardest to manipulate.
She spotted that a nearby window was slightly ajar, she still didn't like doors, and quickly crawled her way through it, stumbling to the ground on the other side.
[God- dammit- eurgh-]
She quickly pushed herself up and dusted her uniform off, covered in the heaven's symbols. She didn't want to make a bad impression, after all.
[Stinkeri...? You home??]
Dee peaked out of his room, he was sure he was screwed, someone was here to make him forget again andâoh.
..Well she wasnât who he was expecting, but it was infinitely better than who he thought was here, he could work with this.
Rococo..wwwow! You lookuuuhh⌠different.! :)
He admittedly was still a little startled.
I was also told you were dead, are you a ghost too? â:)
He walked up and poked her on the forehead, shrugging. Which also was a ..slight concern, he wasnât looking to get injured by her, again. He stepped back a step or two, looking her up and down. That symbol was all over her.
Evangeline glared down at you after poking her in the forehead. It was going to be difficult keeping her patience with him.
[Don't touch me.]
She took a breath and placed her hands behind her back like a soldier.
[You also look different. I'm not sure if it's for better or for worse, though.]
[What- am I a ghost too?? No?? Do I look like a ghost to you?]
[Also, I go by Archange Evangeline the Healer now, but I'll give you permission to just call me "evangeline" I suppose. Rococo was never really a proper name of mine anyway.]
She took a step forward and paced in a circle around you before returning to her original position while she was talking, her hands staying behind her back the entire time.
Deeâs eyes followed her as she walked around, he was obviously confused as to why she was in his home, and he was trying to see if she was even doing anything.
Evangeline!.. (i wonât remember that..)
He could tell she had some less than ideal reason to come here, and that she probably didnât think he had his memory at the moment.
Soooo..buddy! what brings you here? â:)
[ohh, ha, nothing much...just uh,]
[Wondering how that scar of yours is holding up? I know it was quite painful during the accident, and I was just wondering how the healing process was going! Just checking up on you, that's all.]
She pointed at your arm, where the brandish mark would be. She knew there was no hope in getting you to forgive her, so gaslighting you into thinking she never hurt you in the first place was her best hope.
She smiled politely, but not genuinely.
Dee was so perplexed that his smile dropped for a moment, pure skepticism riddled on his face which quickly turned into an even bigger grin.
His memory was still scrambled, but not nearly scrambled enough to not remember what had happened.
He rolled up his sleeve, 3 dull, green scars were on that arm. One of them was the branding, which was clearly the symbol plastered all over Evangelines clothing.
YeahâŚ. yâknow I kind of remember this not being an accident!
He stared at it for a moment before rolling his sleeve back down.
Either way, it healed quickly. :) Perks of my fun kind of critter!
His smile got just a little more strained.
What are you playing at?
Evangeline's smile also became slightly more strained, one of her right eyes now twitching.
[Oh, you remember now, do you? That's great.]
Her tone said the exact opposite. She was fuming, but she had to keep her cool. If stinkeri didn't have a good impression of her...it was either that or she made him forget about her completely.
Fun kind of critter? What was he talking about? She knew he was a deity of some sorts, but doubted he was any bit powerful. There was no way he could heal that quickly...
Her smile brightened when you asked her what she was doing.
[Well, just ah, keeping up appearances, as I'm sure you very well know, stinkeri.]
[Might I ask you the same?]
She squinted and tilted her head towards you. Neither of you were being genuine, and you could both sense that.
What am I doing?
He thought for a moment. Well. Dee had just resurfaced, he hadnât done much, but he had plans! Though he wasnât sure why he was even considering answering Evangeline.
Well first off. Youâre not the only one who can pull a little switch up with their name! :)
Call me Dee.
He considered rambling, telling her to drill it in his skull that his name was Dee so he wouldnât forget again. But, he figured the less she knew about all that the better.
And I guess iâve been up to lots of things! Im sure none of it would interest you :)
Evangeline smiled that professionally strained smile, the corners of her mouth pursed tightly.
[Dee. Lovely.]
[Quite vague, are we? Oh, nevermind. :)]
She fixed a strand of her hair that was annoying her.
[Your right. It wouldn't. :)]
A bit risky... she hoped it would just fly over his head.
[So, how much do you...recall about the accident...that gave you that scar, Dee? I'd like to just...refresh the memory, that's all. :)]
She clasped her gloved hands in front of her chest softly and tilted her head to the left, smiling falsely, without showing her teeth.
Dee knew she was doing something, but what? Why did she care? Was she just trying to mess with his already tampered memory? What did she get from that?
What did he remember anyway? Should probably touch up on that.. He remembered the burning, and that.. it was scrambled, all of it was scrambled. He thought he remembered a second ago!
But he knew it wasnât some accident, he knew that, thats all he needed, Evangeline was bullshitting, he knew that.
I remember it all, bud! I donât need any refreshing, thank you.
The earlier pause made it pretty obvious he was lying, but heâd try to block out whatever Evangeline had to tell him about his scar.
[Ohh...well that just won't do now, will it?]
[Have you ever had the urge to just...forget something that happened to you? Pretend as if it never happened? I know I have. Wouldn't that be nice, stinkeri?]
...
She paused. How would she make you forget it happened? Talking about it all the time certainly wouldn't help...unless she just fearmongered you into forgetting? If that would even work?
She sighed and swung her arms back and forth.
[Listen, stinkeri, we both know what's going on here. I'm just here to make sure that everything goes smoothly, and you forget that ever happened, alright? Nothing more, nothing less. And it would be so unfortunate if you didn't comply. We wouldn't want any more little incidents, now would we?]
[I don't know what's going on with your memory at the moment, the name change, the sudden change in personality, The...green. But I know that you need to forget that ever happened. Alright sweetie?]
She smiled falsely yet again.
Deeâs expression soon became worried. She wanted him to forget. She was going to tell Chaos, she was going to tell Evilstinkeri, she was going to do something.
His name was Dee. And he wasnât forgetting that again, and especially not to whatever strings Evangeline was trying to pull.
In a moment of impulsive panic he swung at her face. It wasnât the strongest punch he could muster but his brain couldnât think of any other ways to get his point of âdont you fucking dareâ across.
He forced a smile back on his face, laughing nervously and taking a step back.
Evangeline looked away, infuriated. Her face was red, you couldn't tell if it was from rage or the punch you gave her.
She turned back to you and whacked you as hard as she could in the side of the head.
She was never one for fisticuffs, she was usually better with knife fights or machetes, but she sure could throw a punch when she needed to.
After realising what she had done, and how punching people didn't exactly make them like you, she took a step back and smiled gently, taking off her now messy gloves and placing her hands in front of her elegantly.
[Ah, given up on our words now, I see? I thought you could do better, stinkeri. :)]
[Dissapointing, to be honest with you. ]
She smiled again and tilted her head, now taking a step forward to inspect where she had punched you.
[Oh! Gosh, where did that come from?! Looks real nasty!]
She was trying anything at this point.
Dee stumbled back, yelping on impact, he had never handled hits to the head well. Once his head stopped spinning he grabbed his nose to make sure it wasnât bleeding. And It wasnât, so it wasnât broken, great.
euuuugh..bitchhh..
He narrowed his eyes as she spoke, he was still a little to out of it to do anything to retaliate, so he was forced to listen. The way she talked pissed him off further, everything about it left a bad taste on his tongue.
Dee backed up as Evangeline came closer.
I donât know what the fuck you think youâre doinâ here but itâs not gonna work on me, bud. â:/
He rubbed the spot she punched him.
Evangeline smiled at your remark and chuckled, backing away promptly.
[That facade of yours disintegrated quickly enough, didn't it?]
[How long are you going to be like this, dee?]
[How long are you going to remember?]
She smiled, being slightly less patronising, she didn't want to get hit in the face again.
[As I said, I'm just here to keep up good appearances. If I don't have a good impact on those I meet, the heavens will torture me again. "You must make sure that every mortal-]
Evangeline paused after remembering that you were a deity too. You weren't in the contract, she could say or do whatever she wanted to you.
[Oh! Yes! I forgot you were a deity! Ugh, well, that changes everything.]
Yeah.- well, getting punched in the face will do that.. but I plan to keep my memories.
He tried to make sense of whatever she was talking about after that, tilting his head a little when she cut herself off.
So youâre in myyyy home pissinâ me off for nothin?â I thought i was the forgetful one! :)
Evangeline scoffed and brought a hand up to her mouth.
[Well, not for nothing, I'm still... quite annoyed at you for something else also.]
[Do you remember Eliza? I'm sure you Do, that's why I unfortunately had to brandish you after all,]
[Anyway, I'm lead to believe that you]
She pointed her finger at your chest and poked you.
[...are responsible for his death.]
[Now, I'm aware you didn't kill him, but I still know what you did. Ordering hitmen is quite cowardly, if you ask me.]
[So of course, killing my brother, and then indirectly killing me, I think is a reasonable excuse to cause you harm. Would you agree? Don't answer that.]
She looked at the side of your head again and placed a hand over it, her palm flashing pink. There wasn't any marks there, but she didn't want to risk leaving any evidence anyways.
What are you talking about..? If i wanted to kill that blue bastard i wouldâve done it myself! :)
Though the smile probably didnât help his case, he really couldnât figure out where she got that idea. Did she even know Eliza was still roaming around? Just as some weird⌠ghost..thing.
He flinched when her hand pressed against his head, leaning away from it. Realizing it actually felt better, he only got more confused.
What are you even doing??
[...that wasn't you...?]
She was so confused, who killed him then?? If it wasn't dee then who else did he piss off enough to get himself killed?
[...I guess I have no real reason to despise you then.]
[...sorry for breaking into your house. I don't like doors.]
Her intimidating manner quickly vanished when she realised she had no reason to hold a grudge against you.
[...do you happen to know anything about how he died...?]
[We never got to hold a proper funeral..I think he'd want you to be there for it though. If I did get around to organising anything. It's not like he had any friends or anything...and I wouldn't want to go on my own. He seemed like he tolerated you at least, from what I've heard.]
Evangeline paused as her false smile slowly changed to a remorseful expression.
[I doubt I'll ever organise a funeral for him though. Nevermind. Sorry.]
She got distant for a moment.
Now thats a switch up! Maybe donât jump to conclusions uhh..whatdidyoucallme.. sweetie? :)
Dee debated if he should tell her about Eliza quite literally haunting him, but⌠she just pissed him off! And he could dangle it above her another time if he needed. So⌠he wasnât going to tell her for now.
I donât know how he died :)
What did Eliza say? Someone stabbed the guy, despite the fact Eliza looked damn impaled, however that worked. Was someone carrying a spike around? He shook the thought off.
I donât think he tolerates-..ed- me bud.. but oh well! I probably wouldnât show up to a funeral anyway.
Probably wasnât the greatest idea to say that, but since when did Dee ever have a filter?
[Don't call me that :)]
she dusted off her jacket and flapped her wings once. She was getting pretty sick of this.
[Thats alright! I wasn't going to show up to your funeral either.]
She forgot how annoying Dee could be, and immediately put up her false facade again.
[Gosh, I forgot how much of an awful person you are! Thaatss why I hated you! That makes sense. :)]
[Anyway, I do suppose there isn't much reason for me to be here any longer. I'll be off!]
