Roger walks into the Trans Health Center carrying a paper flyer in his hand. He was dressed in a black button down, black jeans, a chain attached to his belt loops, and his usual black combat boots. His long blonde hair hanging down his back. With a smattering of tattoos on his arms, and even some peeking through the open area of his shirt on his chest. An array of jewelry completing his look sort of in the way of Ozzy Osbourne. He certainly didn’t look the part of someone who was looking for a receptionist job, but that’s exactly why he was there. Now just to wait and see how it would go.
Amos stood and took him back to the front, where he gave Sawyer the good news about Roger working there now, and they would need to start training him in how to do things. Reception work wasn't really an upward-mobility job, but it wasn't hard to get a handle on, and, frankly, Amos was right: Sawyer did seem to be kind of thriving in the tedium, and they also seemed confident that Roger could get into it, too. At a slow moment, they pulled him away to take a photo of him for his badge. "Okay, so it's up to you if you want to smile or not for the picture; it's just for us more than anything, but it is the picture we'll use for the wall," they said, gesturing to a wall of framed headshots of all the people who worked there.
Roger stood with his hands in the pockets of his pants as he listened to Sawyer explain the overall run down of the job. Going through the basics and explaining everything as if it was the joy of his life to help every patient that came through the doors, and he seemed to actually have a passion for helping people through his job as a receptionist. Roger didn’t think he’d get that excited about it but was willing to put as much effort as he could in doing the best job possible or helping the patients who are seen at the practice. The idea of the photo was a slight challenge for Roger because he wasn’t particularly photogenic, but he decided he should just smile for his badge and staff photo because he wanted to appear approachable and friendly to the people who enter the practice. As the time went on in the shift he felt pretty confident and comfortable that he got a good handle on the job responsibilities.
At the end of the day, Sawyer showed Roger how to lock up and until they could get a printed photo of Roger’s photo did a quick doodle of him and taped it to the wall among the other staff photos. They made sure to give Roger a map of the clinic, pointing out points of interest for him and showed him how to clock out in the employee break room where Amos was, washing his hands in the sink. He smiled at the two of them, “Hey! How’d the first day of training go,” he asked, the question targeted at neither of them specifically but looking more at Roger.
Roger couldn’t help but laugh as Sawyer made a doodle of him to put up on the wall with the staff pictures. He took the map and writes a star on the locations with notes of what they are. As well as following him into the break room so that he could show him how to clock in and out of work. He tried to not appear that it was an overly happy realization that Amos happened to be in the room washing his hands when they walked in the room. Keeping a very professional face as he had asked him how the day was going. “Everything went great. Sawyer was a wonderful teacher and I believe I got a great hand on how things work properly.” He said pushing a lock of hair out of his eyes.
“Awesome! Sawyer, I was gonna take Roger out for a drink soon, would you want to come along,” he asked, though Sawyer, after a quick glance at the way Roger looked at Amos, they quickly made an excuse, waving it off and saying they had to get home to feed their fish. “Aw, that’s a shame, guess it’s just us, Roger,” he said, smiling, “are you more of a plain liquor or cocktail guy? I’ve got two choices to pick from within walking distance and that’s gonna help me pick between them.”
Roger decided to take a moment and go get his jacket then comes and holds it on his arm. He slightly felt embarrassed that he made his feelings a little more obvious than he’d like. He was never a feelings’ person so why was this man getting under his skin like this. “Oh, yeah that’s a shame. But hey I suppose even two can be a party.” He said with a little chuckle trying to sound casual as if not having a third person was a bad thing even if his mind was celebrating. But that fucking smile made his hands sweat and his heart pound. “Mostly straight liquor but I’m open to trying new things.” He said casually.
Amos didn't seem to realize that Sawyer was trying to set the two of them up, tugging on his coat as he watched Sawyer leave. "I'll take you to the cocktail bar, something more special for you to better celebrate," he said, smiling as he began leading Roger out and down the street. "I'm so excited that you decided to apply, Roger. I really hope the job is as good of a fit for you as I think it will be. It's not glamorous, but it is one of those jobs where you feel like you're making things better for people."
“I think that sounds nice thank you.” He said putting on his jacket and making sure he has all of his things to go. He did think it was funny how Sawyer seemed to try to get the two of them alone. He goes to follow him down the street towards the bar. Putting his hands in the pockets of his pants. “I think it will be a good position. I like the way that things have been so far.” He said looking at him as he continued to walk alongside him. “I could certainly see how that would work.”
Amos smiled and took the lead, taking him to a small bar that had various posters and flags in the window, only about two and a half blocks from the clinic itself. He held the door open for Roger, standing aside to let him in. "Find us a nice high-top table, I'll get us a cocktail menu," he said, putting a hand on Roger's shoulder and gently guiding him further into the bar, which only had a few other patrons while he got copies of the menu for the two of them.
He smiled and goes to walk into the bar following behind him. Looking around the place as they go inside the bar. He goes to walk into the bar further with him nodding as he goes off to get their copies of the menu and he finds them a table and sits down to wait for him. Seeing the people around him and listens to the musician that was playing on a stage in the corner of the bar.
