“I’ve upset you, and I mean it when I say that wasn’t my intention. Of all the people in this town I’d be willing to offend, you’re far from one of them.”
“No, no, you haven’t upset or offended. I just wish I could help with more than saying ‘I don’t know.’ Not that it’s really my place. I chose to be a lawyer.”
“It’s a good thing to be liked, it gets you far in life. Not as far as being feared and being powerful but we all have our strengths.” She simpered with a small shrug of her slender shoulders. “Got any good tips about people coming across the boarder from Mexico? All well respected businessmen, of course.”
“Yeah, but I guess some people would say you get more good karma from being liked than being feared, though.” Not that he always bought into karma. Honestly, he just believed what ever happened happened and there was no explanation for it. “Well, there’s no legal tips besides getting a job and getting a citizenship. I know a lot of people try marriage too.”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Flynt, I don’t mean to frustrate you. I’m simply following a lead on a missing persons case that I’d really like to to see end with a victim rather than a corpse. James was seen speaking to your intern, Ms. Parker. I’m only wondering if he was seeking any kind of legal help or advice from your firm. It could be relevant.”
“Not that she documented or told me about. Look, I really want to help, I hope he’s found, but I don’t know anything. I wish I had all the answers like I’m supposed to lie about having on a daily basis, but I don’t.”
“That’s better. How’s business besides the endless questions?”
“Pretty average. I just finished a case where a guy run a car into his neighbor’s house.”
“I don’t need diamond tits to outshine the chica’s in this town.” He may have been joking but as she flicked her hair back, almost confidently, it was clear she wasn’t. “Thank you, this has all been useful. And I do strive for sort of nice. It’s about the best anyone’s going to get. You could even take it as me liking you.”
“Definitely not,” he agreed with a smile. “It’s a good goal for sure. Even if it’s just sort of. And that’s a good sign. I usually like being liked.” He laughed, though he could really name anyone who didn’t like being liked. “So, are there any other hypothetical situations you need legal advice for?”
“What are you talking about? We lawyers are know-it-alls, we’re supposed to know everything that happens around here.”
“Sorry. Must have missed that part of the manual. I’ll pay more attention now.”
“You’re all getting questioned, too, huh? These people have a one track mind it seems.”
“Yeah, this town’s crazy. I mean as much as I feel bad for the poor guy, I know nothing and I wish people would get the hint.”
“I assure you I’m better than that Emma Frost bitch. I mean, she picked Scott Summers of all people.” She scoffed. “The law is never helpful in my opinion. But you’re right, I could blame it all on self defense. I mean, hypothetically.” That was all the go ahead she really needed. Besides, the dude would be too scared to go to the police. She had ways of making sure of that. “Thanks, you’re actually sort of helpful.”
“I’m sure you are. Diamond boobs or not.” He laughed a little jokingly. “I mean it’s helpful to me, but not quite as helpful to others. I won’t deny that. And definitely try to, hypothetically.” Honestly, it wasn’t his job to look into things and if the guy somehow deserved it, then there was no harm. “Thank you. That’s actually sort of nice of you.”
“And maybe my tits are made of diamonds.” She deadpanned. With pursed lips, she contemplated his answer but not hearing anything she liked. “That person could take threaten their dick, kinda like an insurance policy. If they don’t snitch, they won’t need stitches. Really, it’s a win win sort of deal for them.” There was always a way to make people talk and to get them to shut up. The advice didn’t hurt though. “Of course this is all hypothetical. And really, it’s just heresy on their part.”
“Sounds like I should call the Xmen.” He smirked a little, before he let it drop as his thoughts went on to how exactly he should handle advice at this point. “I guess that then would be up to this hypothetical man and threat. Not much the law can help with there.” He shrugged a bit, though he wondered if he just gave her the go-ahead to chop someone’s dick off. No, this was hypothetical. At lest that was how he was going to think of it at the current time. “Yeah, I mean this guy did partake in unwanted touching.”
“It’s the eyes. They make you look like you should be a good cop, or a pig. I always appreciate some free advice, it means I might pay for it later on.” She flicked her hair over her shoulder, leaning it like she was about to share some gossip.·“Okay, so, hypothetically of course, if a girl stabbed a guy in the dick for… well not cheating but like he was trying to touch up on her, what’s the best way to get charges dropped? Should I… I mean, would it be good for them to just take the dick and get it over with or like, negotiate out of court?”
“I guess that makes sense. I’ve heard a lot of things about the eyes. Maybe they’re magical.” Roger absorbed her hypothetical, but not so hypothetical situation as she told him about it. He tried not to, but he envisioned the whole thing in his head and he had to admit it would be hard to find some way to get the guy to drop charges and avoid a trial. “Somehow, maybe, self-defense could be a reason for getting out of it. But it really depends on the guy for whether or not he would press charges. To avoid any further hypothetical problems, I’d suggest that this person doesn’t take their dick.”
“You got it all wrong, gringo. I don’t give a shit what you are or who James is. I’m here for legal advice and that’s it. I’d prefer it to be free but I’m sure we can make a deal.”
“Sorry I keep getting mistaken for a cop for some reason. I mean I’m between clients now so I could give you advice for free. What do you want to know?”
"I’m actually a lawyer, not a police officer, but you can keep asking me questions about James Stephenson if you want. But you can guarantee my answer’s gonna be ‘I don’t know.’ I don’t even know him.”

➳ Roger let out a laugh in agreement before he followed her nod to the two women. ❝ You know, I can actually see it, the blonde pulling the gun,” he said, looking back at the woman he was talking to. “I’d point out my friend, but she met a guy here and left with him somewhere. She claims that my blue eyes need to go out more often. They owe it to society or something.”
