[ Ever since the first time they had kissed, something inside of James had been gnawing at his mind. ‘This isn’t right,’ it whispered. ‘He’s your brother.’ And it never went away.
The first time they kissed and the demon appeared, it wrecked him. He cried in Arthur’s arms until he made himself ill with his tears. It left him torn apart and helpless. But Arthur put him back together.
He said that he would keep him safe. That nobody had to know. And it was enough to patch him up for that moment.
However, the second time was a repeat of the first. The same for the third. And the fourth. And the fifth. It was a cycle for the first handful of times.
Though it seemed hopeless, Arthur never gave up on him. Not for one minute. And then it happened.
One evening when James was feeling down, he and his brother were snuggled up in their bed, just mindlessly not paying attention to what was on television. Arthur held James close and James let him. That wasn’t new they always did that. Cuddling had always felt natural with Arthur.
No, it was when James looked up at Arthur. Arthur smiled down at him, strong and reassuring as ever. His brother was so much stronger than he was. He didn’t know how he could ever thank him for taking care of him, even though he knew Arthur never wanted to be thanked for it.
Looking up at him, James felt nothing but love for his brother. It was calming and warm. It made him feel inexplicably happy. So with a faint smile, he leaned up and pressed a gentle kiss to his lips.
It was the first time James had ever initiated a kiss with Arthur. It was the first time he had ever let himself e n j o y it. The way he saw it was that he loved his brother. That couldn’t be wrong. So why couldn’t he show it like this? Why should it have to be any different than anyone else?
Arthur was the only person he loved and trusted in the entire world. There was no one else who could save him from himself. If it was to be them against the world, they could handle it together. ]
