Intrigued, his steps begin to come to a halt upon catching wind of a stranger’s curious spiel. Listening silently, the detective continues to observe the young man at the side of him as he continues his speech; despite Goro’s own gaze locked onto his figure, the man’s stare remains fixated on the tall buildings situated around them, though even in spite of this, it’s clear to Goro that he knows of his presence. With each passing day he too had wondered the same thing that this stranger now spoke of—though that’s unsurprising, since he surmises a few people on this island thought as much, surely. Yet this would be the first time he had heard another speaking on it, aloud at that. As his words come to a close, he poses a few inquiries that appear to be addressed to no one in particular, but even still Goro’s lips part to offer a rebuttal. “I wouldn’t say it’s a pointless exercise. One should always question their surroundings, and even more so in a situation such as this.” Asking questions kept one’s mind sharper—or so he strongly believed. This island had a lot of charms; in fact, most would consider it a rather perfect place to consider home, thus some individuals never questioned their new living arrangements. While he had also favoured some of those appeals, it had never once caused him to wane on his suspicions concerning the island. “However, as you stated yourself, the answers to those questions might never be revealed.”
Gaze narrowing ever slightly, one gloved hand moves upward to rest over his chin. “Though if I had to take a guess, I’d presume that their ambitions connect to the way they’ve designed each building. The architecture here… they appear to have taken inspiration from structures found in other realms.” Pausing, he thinks on whether on not he should share his thoughts—with a stranger no less, yet nonetheless after a few short moments on contemplation he continues. “Perhaps their intention, or ambitions are to make others feel at home?”
at the least, it seems he’s engaged his unintended company in conversation. n is fine with that, as he realizes zoroark cannot be his sole companion forever; aside that, his resolutions will amount to nothing if he continues to shrug off human contact solely in favor of pokémon. even if he cannot befriend everyone he meet -- that he realizes is foolish -- it will do some good to simply talk with people.
<<I think you’re right on many counts. Although... then one wonders if our questioning too easily becomes aimless paranoia... or helps to broaden our understanding of the world around us.>> a small huff that could almost be mistaken for a sigh leaves him as he pauses. <<I suppose here it inevitably becomes a mixture of both if you continue on long enough.>>
he watches the other for a moment, standing poised besides him, as he considers the rest of his words further. the island has been kinder in some senses than the city he remembers, though it seems likely there are merely more hidden dangers lying unexposed beneath the surface. n finds himself nodding along with some enthusiasm.
<<The people here are all taken from many different worlds, so it makes sense that they would draw from those worlds when constructing the island.>> though he doesn’t see anything truly reminiscent of home here; anything familiar is few and far between, and a poor facsimile at best. <<No matter how closely they might have imitated anything we know, this place will never lose that undercurrent of being irreconcilable with our perception of our own worlds... our own homes.>>
it’s then he turns to smile.
<<Though I suppose that line of thought begins to diverge into a very unscientific way of thinking... I find it difficult to put into words... but I’m grateful to have someone to speak with openly on the subject.>> again he pauses. <<The people here seem to have become preoccupied more with their day-to-day lives than the formulas underpinning their very surroundings. Shouldn’t we all be more concerned with the workings of this island? Or those behind it all?>>
