i watched a terrible bootleg of deaf west’s spring awakening and i wept like a small child and now i am sad because (a) i hate my job (i hate every job) and wish i could work in theater full-time but i am also sad because (b) while i love silly community theater (and even sillier community youth theater) and i am glad i live in a place where it thrives, i am also acutely aware of the fact that it is very rare for anything remotely challenging to survive here because nobody wants anything but family-friendly blockbuster musicals with disney somewhere in the title and so companies have to cater to that to pay the bills and i just want to be able to do and see things that tear me down and build me back up in a real way

but seriously (and i know this brings nothing new to the conversation) this new imagining of sa is profoundly beautiful and it elevated a show i already really liked into something astonishing and i am blown awaaaaaay
