I just read your post/rant about how people are viewing Nesta based on feyres pov and I would love to hear your view on Eris because I believe that he is a genuinely good person and that the IC are doing him dirty in the way that they portray him
Aah Eris, Eris, Eris… we love a bad boy, don’t we?
But is he really that bad? Or is he just a +500yrs old fae who has been forced since birth to fight for his life? Same as the IC some people would probably say, isn’t it?
In my opinion no one is either white or black in the Acotar serie.. all characters hold that morally grey compass.. some perhaps a bit darker than others, but at the end of the day.. they have all killed, lied, cheated, and done other terrible things.
With Eris, I feel like there’s a lot of background story we havent yet seen. We have just scratched the surface with the little crumbs we got throughout Acosf.
However, putting yourself on Eris shoes.. he’s the eldest brother in a family where powers and strength means everything. He has six brothers, and wether people want to include Lucien or not, up until his lover death, Lucien still played a big role into one day becoming a High Lord, as everyone still thinks he’s Beron son.
Eris as the eldest, have had more attention from Beron, as fae takes decades to have kids.. his second brother must have been born when Eris was probably getting into young adult. Now.. being the only son for the moment, meant every attention from Beron on him. And we know how awful Beron is with everyone, gods know what type of childhood Eris had.
Since youth.. all Beron sons have been forced to fight each other, to show who’s the strongest, the smartest.. who one day will inherit the title.. and Beron has loved every second of it.
From the way he acts when his parents are around, he seems over protective of his mother (as it showed in the High Lord meeting). Does he know about his mother and Helion? Maybe… perhaps he even know the truth about Lucien.
We do know that Eris helped Lucien to escape Autumn.
When it comes to Mor.. no one thinks that Eris was a kid too when it happened. He was the same age as the IC back then, and he was also forced into the marriage. He had no choice. Mor forced the situation by choosing to sleep with Cassian because she “heard rumours” of Eris cruelty, but yet.. she never actually met him.
He knew she didnt want the marriage and the reason she chose to give herself to Cassian, and he also knew that if he took her when her parents did those horrible things to her.. it would have forced her to stay in Autumn.. which is something she clearly didnt want to do, and imagine how her life would have been under Beron’s roof.
Could Eris perhaps know the truth about Mor? I think so.. he’s too smart not to see it. But we need to clarify that he never ever touched her. That it was her parents and family who tortured her and then dumped her at the border of Autumn Court.
I feel like the IC exaggerates a lot when it comes to Eris because they’re blind towards Mor, cause she’s family and that’s logical.. because why would they believe Eris over Mor when Eris is widely known for being “cruel”.
But that same thing applies to Rhysand.. why anyone outside Velaris would think Rhysand is a good guy if is widely known of his cruelty in the Night Court. Like even his own people in Hewn City are terrified of him. But isn’t that a mask Rhysand use to protect Velaris?
Is Eris perhaps doing the same? Wearing the mask of cruel and cunning Lord who’s willing to betray and murder his father to obtain power.. but perhaps he’s doing it to protect the Autumn Court? To free his mother from Beron? To allow his brother back home? To protect someone we dont know?
In my opinion, Eris is a very interesting character that I’d like very much to know more about.
Sorry for the long answer though but Eris is definitely one of my favs characters! 🤣
