I will always find it interesting that gwynriels never question why azriel didn’t give the necklace straight to Gwyn if Gwynriel was going to be canon and endgame.

It did not have to go to Elain first(and describe elain perfectly btw) and Clotho did not have to be in that chapter at all. He did not have to give it to her instead.

They never once question the purpose of Clotho taking the necklace from him. Especially when Clotho is the name of one of the 3 Fates of greek mythology. Clotho wasn’t necessary in that scene unless she was playing a greater more symbolic role.

He put his and Elain’s future into fates hands.

You know it’s that serious when Azriel takes his time doing something; like deliberately being slow while putting the necklace around Elain’s neck just so he can touch her a little longer, (while still having an excuse to.)

I think it’s safe to say our moody Shadowsinger is down bad for the gentle flower-grower. Sleepless nights. Skin taught with desire. Pure yearning. Having nothing but a bottle of headache powder to cling to in order to think of and be with her, even only in his mind if that’s all he can have. Poor Azzy 😔 (but let’s be real, we’re loving the angst 😏).

Huge ‘thank you’ to @babushkahihi !! Thank you for your incredible work on this piece ❤️ I’ve held onto it specifically for this week and I can’t believe the time has flown by (without a book announcement, at that 😭). It was so fun commissioning this piece and feeling Azriel’s sleepless torment right along with him.

the way in Azriel's bonus chapter, he only notices things about Elain's appearance and thinks of her in a sexual way, but with Gwyn, he notices not only her appearance (her hair, her freckles, her eyes, her smile...) but also her evolution (how different she is from the Gwyn he saved in Sangravah), her humor, her reactions, her movements, her charming irreverence....

"SJM wouldn't write 'What if the Cauldron was wrong?' just for it to be right!" Unless, and stay with me here...the point is that Azriel is wrong for thinking that fate/The Mother would pair fated mates based on convenience of proximity, easy attraction, or that he's incorrect in wanting a mate as a potential remedy for the self-worth issues that are clearly on display in the BC. Maybe he's wrong/incorrect in potentially hoping that the bond would provide proof that he's worthy, and instead he has to find that worth within himself completely separate from any romantic relationship.
