open starter for anyone.
location: beside the flower truck.
@pwstarters
“Would you like one?” Amara asked towards a nearby individual who was walking by while she was closing up her truck. “It’s not some type of trick where I tell you that they’re actually twenty dollars. They’re from yesterday and they haven’t sold so they’re not going to last that much longer. I’d rather they die on someone’s kitchen counter, brightening up their home, than my truck.” It was something she’d done from time to time when she had too many batches of dried flowers at home.
“They’re free. You can grab a few if you’d like. It’s nice to give to a neighbour, family member or significant other.”
romana loves to walk because in the eyes of those who don’t know her, she’s just a girl on a walk. she can enjoy the breathing avenue, she can enjoy the trees and even the people. the colours and sounds, the bustle of it all evoked an emotion that romana had stopped feeling for some time. hope. the fact that she can still live a semi-liveable life. ‘ would you like one? ’ comes a feminine voice that catches romana from her thoughts. while thinking over the question, light eyes flicker over the truck, then to the woman who’s explaining why she’s giving out flowers for free. hands in her pockets, she’s a bit skeptical. rom has never been handed a single free thing in her life. the nerves are almost automatic.
❝ yeah ... yeah, that’s a good idea. i think i will. ❞ she agrees, shifting her weight from foot to foot while running her tongue against the insight of her lip in thought. rom doesn't make a move to take any flowers right away. after a number of years in prison your social skills tend to dull, and rom has never had great social skills to begin with. with a purposefully slow reach, rom takes a couple of flowers into her hands with a gentle touch, careful to not crush them in her rough hands. she can put them on aydin’s grave. the sight she’s been ignoring for months now. maybe it’s about time she takes a visit to the cemetery. ❝ thank you, by the way. this is a great idea, so. ❞ rom stops there with a quick and thankful nod.
monday, june 13th, 2022. 7.02am at planet of the crepes , with esmeray ozdemir.
the jingle of multiple keys on a chain sound through the quiet morning street as the manager unlocks the front door to the shop. she had been gone a week and it feels as if no time has passed while she steps into planet of the crepes. rom had been dreading coming back, if she were to be honest with herself. for a moment, she stands in the middle with low, slumped shoulders and tired eyes. the overcast on the shop was a little too on the nose for how it felt being in here again because not only had a shadow been cast over romana's life, but it now hangs over the shop, too, since aydin’s passing. all she sees is memories. everywhere she looks, and it only makes her sad. the flash of his boy-ish smile, a mischievous chuckle after a joke was made, the genuine and gentle politeness to his customers while taking the time to get to know them.
her tongue grinds against tightly clenched teeth as she trudges further into the shop. shoving the office door open, romana stops quickly in her tracks seeing another person. brows furrow, eyes narrow, romana becomes harsh and skeptical as her eyes land on a stranger who’s looked as if she’s made herself comfortable at the office desk. ❝ who the fuck are you? ❞ paper’s, receipts, and booklets are scattered. the scene makes romana bristle. she may not want to be here, but that doesn’t mean she wasn’t going to be protective over this place. it has been her home for the past year and a half. ❝ you better start talkin' because there’s a baseball bat behind the cabinet and i can guarantee you i’ll get it before you’re able ‘tuh take five steps. ❞

𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: sol pointe lighthouse 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐬: open
it’s hard to accept the notion that she’s become a lot like the women she writes about. divorced women, girls stuck in awful relationships, miserable wives, their despondency is always clear, sharp, easily felt, but painful to digest. it’s entertaining at least, scarlett reminds herself as she recalls the number of people that have supported her work for years and given her a chance to conquer the new york times best sellers list more than once, and yet, perhaps her dejection ought to be attributed to the place where she’s staying. of course, the deluxe beach house that she’s rented certainly isn’t the issue, but rather it’s the entire town seems to lack charm, a distinct sort of beauty. as she reaches the lighthouse, she takes a moment to memorize the scenery, knowing that they’ll start shooting some of the scenes from her upcoming series right here, and then, soon enough, she’ll be free to leave. just as she’s about to turn on her heel, she spots someone else, uncertain if she should say something. “i didn’t really expect to see anyone else here. perhaps i should inform you that this location will be closed for a couple of days due to filming.”
romana would have never thought that she would have the opportunity to feel the peace she does while visiting the lighthouse. while in prison and spending her nights in her cell, she would daydream. now, romana isn’t the daydreaming type, but being locked in a cage changes your perspective. it changes you. romana felt as if she had lost her dignity. she didn’t have any control over anything. in many ways, it felt like her childhood home in arizona. the difference was that in arizona, romana had her sister. in prison, she was helpless and alone and had to learn quickly if she wanted to survive. in the end, the best advice she recieved was from her cellmate, would said it is what you make it. so, she would daydream. ( amongst other, more practic ways to spend her time. romana didn't have family outside of prison who could send her money to buy items off the prison commissary, like coffee, food, and toiletries. so she had to find other ways of earning cash. she made a hustle. ) she would daydream of all the places she was going to see. mountains, open skies and endless seas. when she got out, her daydreams became a reality, and then she ended up here in port whitley.
romana adapted, got herself on her feet and met a boy who would take her to the lighthouse every sunday evening. here she is now on a random day in the middle of the week, taking in the sights and sounds of what is now her freedom. she had aydin to thank for this. but now he's gone. just as easily as he had slipped into her life, he ripped himself away. a woman's voice takes romana out of her reveries. she's somewhat surprised that the stranger had decided to say anything to her at all, seeing as romana's features seemed to be placed in a permanent scowl. ❝ well, shit, ❞ romana sighs, looking out towards the water longingly, then around the area, trying to picture a film crew settling in and disturbing, well, everything. ❝ ... it’s about time i find another hideaway anyway. thanks for the heads up. ❞ this would allow her to explore port whitley more. she's been here a year and a half and still has yet to venture out more. aviator-shielded eyes flicker towards the woman. ❝ what’s being filmed here, do you know? ❞ romana asks with curiosity.
