facts i think need to be kept in mind when looking at trinity's hatred for/fear of langdon:

her childhood best friend killed herself because of their rapist

langdon is a male authority figure who is commiting a crime

langdon is a father. he has access to children

trinity, on the same day, watched her department collectively decide not to report a man for raping his daughter

And that's how they operate. If Mav tries to approach Ice and Slider tugs him back by his collar, as impulsive as Maverick is, he takes the fucking hint. There is only one man who can handle Tom Kazanksy's moods and their relationship isn't far along enough for it to be him yet.

something i've been thinking a bit about regarding season 2 of the pitt is whether or not the choice to open on a shot of robby riding his motorcycle without a helmet actually served the story they were trying to tell.

i loved the rationale that noah wyle provided as to why they decided to do it (in this new york times profile), and i think it does a lot for the front half of the season—sowing some distrust in the audience about the real purpose of robby's sabbatical, making us wonder if his intention is not purely just to take a break, making us worry about his physical safety.

but as the season goes on and the cracks in robby's facade start to show through more and more (the moments with abbot & whitaker in episode 9, his reaction to samira's panic attack in episode 10, the moment at the end of 13 where he suggests to dana that he might not come back, and then ultimately the scenes with duke & abbot in 14 & 15 where he admits to not wanting to be alive anymore), it feels like the tension has already broken.

we knew that robby had a disregard for his safety from moment one. we knew that what he said to people about his sabbatical was not necessarily to be trusted. we knew that, deliberate or not, robby's sabbatical could very much end with him gravely injured or dead. so when he slowly begins to reveal that he's suicidal, it feels like... well, yeah. you're riding a motorcycle without a helmet, as an ER doctor who is fully aware of what the consequences of a motorcycle accident look like. if not at this moment actively suicidal, he's at least halfway there.

i think that's part of why the conversations with robby towards the end of the season felt repetitive to some viewers. because we already knew! we didn't get to fully experience that sinking feeling of dread that the characters in the show did as they realized what was going on with him. by the time it got to that point, we were emotionally affected, sure, but we also felt like those confessions were the undercurrent of everything we'd been seeing from the very beginning of the first episode, and fifteen weeks later they'd lost a little bit of their power.
