âLuchino and I have the same idea of Elisabeth. The opposite of what people think or saw, of the three films I made on Elisabeth of Austria, who is a completely different woman. There are some things about this character and her life that truly touch me, but at the same time this makes me deeply sad because I have read a lot about her⊠we are similar⊠and there is still a little fear, and whether I like it or not, the mark of the empress of Austria which I struggled so much to get rid of will still press with all its weight to make my Elisabeth authentic.â
