First off!! Mod Bambi here! I’m so so sorry this blog has been so inactive (almost a year yikes!) I have had school work and no inspiration with manips nor fics about these two and this isn’t exactly shippy but.. take it as apology for absence
Bambi was patrolling through the meadow with his father. It was early morning, the sun was barely up and the whole glory of flowers and grass seemed like a dream to the still-young deer.
“Hey uh, prince.” A familiar voice called out to him, with a tone of shyness, that made Bambi rather uneasy.
“Morning Ronno.” He settled for polite approach and glanced up to his father. The great prince didn’t seem suspicious of the other male deer.
“Can we... talk?” The darker shaded deer requested and quickly bowed to the great prince. Bambi’s father nodded in acknowledgment and left the pair alone. He had patrolling to do.
Bambi studied the other deer closely. He seemed uncomfortable or perhaps awkward. It was very unusual for Ronno. His ears were down and he wasn’t making eye contact with him. He cautiously walked closer the the darker fur deer.
“What did you-” He started, timidly as always. Even though he had gotten confidence, his manner of speaking stayed the same. Ronno interrupted him.
“How are you and Faline?” The question confused the prince. Why Ronno was interested in his affairs? Was he trying to woo Faline, still?
“It didn’t work out. We’re friends.” He answered and a memory of their talk flashed through his head, but he banished it. No use dwelling in old memories like that. She was still in his life.
“Oh. That’s a bummer. How are you holding up?” Ronno continued, his green eyes traveling on young prince’s body, not meeting the eyes. Bambi couldn’t fathom why Ronno of all deers sounded sad. He should be happy.
“I’m fine.” Younger deer mumbles cautiously. Older deer wasn’t making any sense and it confused him.
“If.. If you need a mother, my mum would be happy to look after you.”
Bambi could only blink in surprise. This was Ronno of all critters.. and he told him something like this?
He couldn’t deny having a mother would be nice, even though him and his father were close now. But he couldn’t shake his suspicions about the older deer.
“What’s the catch, Ronno? Will you ridicule me if I say no?” He spoke, slightly sarcastic edge to his words which was very unusual for the gentle prince. He eye’d the deer with his big eyes, who, truly seemed nervous. Or great actor.
“No catch!” His ears perked up as he spoke, too quickly to be an honest answer. Bambi’s face reflected his stance, as Ronno’s ears went down again, his eyes cast on the ground.
“Well, maybe, perhaps, I- wanted to spend some time with you.”
The world seemed upside down to the young prince. First he ridiculed him, intimidated him and now just now he wanted to spend time with him? Older deer was a mystery for the younger, one he felt he would never solve.
“I- I know that I wasn’t- great to be around. But I’m better! Now, that is. I just, can’t shake you off my mind.” Ronno rambled on, his cheeks flustered now, a sight that slightly softened Bambi’s expression and opinion of him. But what was this? This seemed almost like...
A love confession.
Like he and Faline had.
“Ronno, I- I’ll think of it. Find me. Later.” He spoke, his words wavering and disbelief in his tone. He was giving him another chance? It had been a while and he truly, seemed better now... He was so utterly confused and baffled... maybe a little bit flattered, too.
The sight of awkward Ronno didn’t leave his mind as he dashed back to his father.
