happy new year! i just uploaded a mashup of new year’s day and all too well i did with @likewestoodachanceswift to my youtube channel!

this is one of my favourite things i've done! bit of a backstory to this one...i arranged this mashup around 3 years ago (yes, 3 !! - i was 13) and it's taken me this long to do a properly recorded version. me and annabel performed an acoustic version (maximum 2 vocal parts and a guitar, so nothing like this) at a school concert, but thought we should take advantage of being able to produce a full version and just go for it! ironically this was actually filmed quite a while ago and i've only just got round to editing it all (typical) but it seems to have miraculously coincided with new year's so i'll just pretend that was the plan all along. hope you like it x

here’s a hot take: the 1 is not about a past relationship, it’s about a relationship that never happened, but almost did. if you wanted me you really should have showed / if one thing had been different, would everything be different? / if my wishes came true, it would have been you / it would have been sweet if it could have been me like good friends that were both into each other but never acted on it for whatever reason, and then ultimately grew apart altogether.

i feel like “roaring twenties” is referencing an age, not a decade

all the stuff about “never leaving well enough alone”/“digging up the grave another time” i could see in reference to solidifying the relationship. like pushing too hard to define and make it serious and then the other person gets scared and cuts it off and then “you never know never know” if it could have been a great love
